Points versus Pertronix

Roger, my Lotus twin cam will get electronic for the same reasons you cite plus the fact that one doesn't need any extra sparking under the carb's. I, however, don't believe I have ever had an issue with points while on the road that was caused by anything other than not doing periodic maintenance. Did have a set close up on me because DPO hadn't put any lube on the points cam and did have my MGB quit in traffic once and require the points to be cleaned. The MGB problem turned out to be the coil being bad. Perhap's its just my memory going but I'm talking a heck of a lot of miles since my youth with points ignition. I'm cheap and lazy so will stick with points!

Kurt.

I have been using the Pertronix unit for 10 years?
never had an issue even had the car stored at one point for 1.5 years
didn't even think about looking under the cap no point. Pun intended
I guess a question would be has anybody had one fail on the road?
I know some early units would fail if left on not ringing but
that was addressed with the newer unit
personally I had never heard of one failing

SD, where are you at? I'm in the southeast corner of So Dak. Send me a PM, maybe we can get together.
