PO Rant!

....and I don't mean Previous owner. I'm steamed! I've had these tailights in the same box for a few years now. It has a few stains on it from kicking around the attic. I bring it to the Post office to ship to a forum member and they tell me they won't ship it because it has stains on it. It needs to be wrapped in brown paper. @@#$ them! They've been charging me for every deviation from the norm they can. If it's a little big or not the right proportions I get a "nonmachinable" surcharge and I've been taking it. Now this!. Sorry for the rant. Then these miserable workers have the nerve to give me crap for expressing my displeasure. I go there every week with packages.

Gosh darn poopy heads is what they are! POOPY HEADS!
(can I say gosh darn poopy heads on this forum?)

That's why I use the UPS store.
No line and they are happy to help...

It's all in who's working the counter....the UPS store recently didn't like the "tape job" on a package and wanted to add $1 to re-tape. Huh? Never heard of that. Post office will take a package one day and then give me stuff the next for the same type, size or whatever....I'm lucky I have 3 post offices all about the same distance from the house. I've gone to one and been told they can't mail it for whatever reason, gotten in the car and driven to another nad mailed it no questions asked or even an eyebrow raised. Guess it just depends on the day.

I set up an account with UPS, and pay the true shipping amount. If I don't feel like going to the store, I just schedule a pickup and the driver comes by the house to get the outgoing stuff. No extra charges, no headaches.

Use on of their free Priority boxes...My local shipping store charges an exorbitant surcharge on UPS shipments so I use the PO for almost everything...

Is there a charge to set up an account?

No charge for setting up an account. I set it up so it charges my debit card whenever I ship. I just put in the particulars about the box, choose the method of shipping and print out the label.

I used to do a lot of selling on ebay, so this made things a bit easier for me. I could get the shipping spot on without overcharging people.

oops, rambling...

From what I've seen, a lot of people on ebay feel it's a built in part of thier profit to charge about 3X the actual shipping.
Good to hear someone's on the up and up. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I agree with the PO rant and it is definitely some of the workers. I have done a considerable amount of mailing this year for business promotions. I have had all sorts of things messed up by those people but one really upset me.
I took a sample of a mailing to have it weighed so I knew for certain what was needed for postage. A week or so later I started getting a few pieces returned for insufficient postage. Then I got some returns for postage due refused. I had the returns weighed at the main post office again and even with the attached return and refusal stickers they were still under the weight for the postage attached. No telling how much this has really cost me.
I have also used UPS as much as possible, this experience reinforced that thinking.

FEDEX Ground with pickup at my garage - electronic account, print labels directly off my computer - they send me labeling materilas free - plus 30% discount for doing everything on-line....can't beat it!

Not that I'm satisfied or anything...hehehehe

Yeah, well I STILL get PO'd when vendor folks charge
me $50 for special handling to a foreign country and it arrives at my door with $7.00 U.S.P.S. postage on it.

One guy wanted $60 to mail one book to me. I just mailed a whole BOX of books to a friend in the States for $9.00

I join the rant but for different reasons.

tinster

tinster - you just need to use the correct vendors...hehehe

We have shipped several of our e-bay parts to PR and it doesn't seem to cost any more. We use the shipping calculator on e-bay to set our shipping costs. I'm sure we are losing money in the cost of tape, bubble wrap, gas etc. but for me its about cleaning out the garage more than making a profit anyway.

Yer correct Tony-

This last one with the Big Three I had no choice.
I needed the tail lights and another spare fuel pump
pronto before David arrives next weekend.

Now I know better.

Did my e-mail ever get to you??

later gator,

d

It did - I sent you an answer the next day...lemme resend it

Oh, you were talking about a new email that I'd not yet checked....all I can say here is WOW!!!

I'm curious - whats your zip code & the actual weight of the paqckage? I want to calculate my shipping costs to compare to theirs....

Hey Tony!

00961 zip code

Maybe under 2 pounds?

tr6 fuel pump (1)
red plastic brake light lens (1)
set of gaskets. (2)
set of gasket (2)

I'll drop you a note when the parts arrive.

When our friends send us stuff; there is never any
problem or high shipping costs. I'm fairly sure the
U.S.P.S charges Priority Mail based upon distance.

I'm pretty sure UPS is the same but Fed-X does cost more.

So I can actually just set up an account and they'll come to my house and pick up the goods? Is there a minumim from either company?

I was going to stay out of this, but I can't. There is no minimun number pickup from the Post Office. They will pick up 1 or 100. As far as the stains on your taillights, how do we know what it is? It could be something caustic or dangerous or just a stain. Tooooooo many people try to mail things that have NO business in the mail stream. However, if you have already packed them, then a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy can apply. Also do NOT try to use boxes that had non mailable items packeged in them (beer, wine, cleaning chemicals, etc). Homeland security has kicked in on things like this. If the post office THINKS something is wrong, better safe than sorry.

Tom,
I'm guessing your mailing was right on the edge as far as size or weight. Try something smaller next time. I know this does not help you this time, but might in the future. No one hates the P.O. more than me, but I can't stand bad information. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
