Onward with the tuneup. Worked on the timing, think I got it at least close. Some PO had marked the distributor shaft, and that mark seemed to line up with where it ran well. Fiddled with the carbs, more work to do there still.

2 questions for the morning. I need to flush the radiator. Thoughts on disposal of old coolant?

The spark plugs on the car are currently Autolite 404 plugs. Are these appropriate? Other thoughts for plugs to try?
 
Down the drain. Do not put where animals will get it. Amazing what the disposal folks take care of.

Ahh, humm. calls for Champ N5 as I remember. Lots of luck. Seems like most places only carry Jap stuff.
 
Please don't pour your anti-freeze down the drain. Your local landfill/waste collection service should have a waste anti-freeze tank.
 
yea, no antifreeze down the drain, especially if you're on a septic tank!

Most autoparts stores, recycling centers or landfills will accept it.

As noted, animals will try to drink it if you leave it in an open container. They've started using an additive the last year or so in my state (new law) that makes it taste bad so animals and children don't try it, but I'm not familiar with Utah's regs, or for that matter, how old your existing antifreeze is...

Thanks for the plug recommendations and coolant warnings. I was planning on taking it somewhere, thought it was toxic of a sort. Lots of plug options, hmmm, wonder where to start there.
 
I run the NKG plugs, also ran the champions. Didn't see any difference.

Some people have issues with platinum plugs.

IMO, spark gap is ten times more important than brand or model....
 
I've heard bad things about platinum plugs (and had some trouble myself). I am under the impression that they foul easily when the mixture isn't perfect. At any rate, I use Bosch Super plugs (they have copper electrodes). The up side is that although I tend to go through a lot of plugs, they're all of $1.29 each at my local Autozone, and they usually have at least 8 in stock.
