Plug wires revisited

Trying to deal with the local yehoos at the parts store is always a bit frustrating. If it ain't in the computer, they can't figure it out.

Here's what I think I need to ask for:

7mm wires
Metal core (copper, stainless, ??)
One end with the plug cap (right angle)
Other end not relevant (I've got a side entry cap)
At least 18" long each (I'll cut to length

Anything else? Any specific cars I should ask for that fit this?

as long as ur cap is right, u can make most any proper sized wires work i would think...get the good ones ; )

You might have better luck at a motorcycle shop. They typically sell spark wire by the foot.

Parts stores will not have sets using solid core wiring unless maybe...and it's a long shot for a forklift or industrial use.

Your local speed shop maybe a better choice with a "universal" solid core V8 set in 7mm but that crowd is the 'bigger is better' type and 7mm will be problematic.

A NAPA store just might have solid core by the foot and youll need 4 90* plug boots and 4 crimp terminals plus one boot/terminal for the coil.

Drew, some other sources to explore are tractor or farm supply places, as well as outdoor power equipment dealers or repair shops.

Update--went to one of my local parts stores and got the older guy behind the counter. He knew what I needed, and I'm now the proud owner of a set of 7mm copper core universal wires. They're bright yellow, but they'll do the trick nicely. Since it's a V8 set, I've now got a lifetime supply!

Thanks all for the advice.

Hmmm, you can change em with the points in the future.

Just curious on the 7mm wire necessity...
Local stores only have 8mm, apart from being a little more snug in the dizzy cap, is there any reason not to use 8mm (if that's all that's available at short notice) and will (can) it do any harm?

Should work just fine if they will fit in the dizzy and you say they will.

I have a universal set of Accel plugwires that are now on my Midget. They are also bright yellow I think they are 8mm and if I recall, I had to trim back the insulation a little bit to get it to fit in the cap but otherwise, work great! Pic here.

Those look similar to the ones I used. Mine were 7mm, fit great, and being a V8 set, I've got another new set ready to go next time.

If you get old (70's) big block chevy V8, you can actually get 16 from a set, they're long enough to cut in half if they have connectors at both ends.
