Hi Please can you advise of how I can remove overspray spots from the seat cover(s) and internal trim ( leather and vinyl ) on my recently acquired Stag.. Thankyou Kind Regards
Andy - UK

Hello Andy,
I think this will prove difficult without also removing the colour of the trim. Vinyl will probably be OK (Try T Cut) but the leather is coated with a colouring and you will probably remove that also. You could, very carefully, try using a craft knife to lift the spots off the leather. Leather, of course, can be re-coloured but it may be better to leave well alone, if the spots are not too obtrusive.

Hi, it can be done. this is not an uncommen problem on resprayed cars. first you must know what type of paint was used, then use the solvent required. a good first choice that wont harm your trim is petro base hand cleaner with pumice

Hello Andy, BR,
I stand by what I say, a lot of the leather used by British car manufacturers is colour coated and a solvent will take the colour off. If you want to try a solvent, try it on an out of sight piece first.

Hello, I agree with the other suggestion. Solvent will pull the color out of leather, and depending on the solvent, vinyl too. But this is what I do. And it can be done, if done carefully.First, you don't attack any paint on any trim with gobs of any solvent. Removing overspray correctly, is a bit of a craft. If the hand cleaner with pumice doesn't work, use #870 urathane reducer and a small artist brush, made out of hogs hair, also called a whity. Cover all corresponding areas with towels, except the affected area. Have a small, untippable vessel dip the whity in the solvent. Blot the brush on a clean rag, so there is just enough solvent left in the brush to barely wet the paint spot. Dab paint spot then dab with clean, dry rag.Continue patiently, this procedure, until you have wetted, and lifted the overspray up into the clean rag. Scraping with an exacto knife is risky, will suade affect the leather, if you are not careful. More to this than there is room. If you need anymore help, just ask.

All - Hi and Thankyou - I am trying to understand what type of paint was used??? I didnt arrange re-spray,, need to establish type ?? Any ideas ( I dont know the previous owner !!! )..
(Apologies if this is a daft Question ..!!).

Kind Regards - Andy ( UK )

A clay bar will remove paint over spray from hard surfaces so it may be worth a try.

If I ever need a universal solvent to clean stuff I use Denatured alcohol. It will remove tree sap on your paint too.

Hi Andy,

I was able to remove very old primer overspray on a vinyl convertable top (heavy embossed pattern) with a product called Pristine Clean by Leatherique and a fairly stiff brush. This was after unsucessful attempts with other products. It took several passes to get everything and a bit of elbox grease but the top looked brand new afterwards. Pristine clean is also made for cleaning leather and the company sells rejuvenator oil which is a great leather cleaner and conditioner along with all sorts of leather dyes, prep agents and crack fillers if you need to restore leather that is too far gone. I would email Leatherique for their suggestions to your particular problem. They were quick to respond when I was looking for some help.
