Hi Rich, just got to thinking,
Remember that the previous owner/seller could have used an odd assortment of parts on your car. Some of the parts "could" be incorrect to match the car number. The later cars were supposed to have a coarser thread, 8 threads per inch, on the hubs & knockoffs. Earlier hubs should have 12 threads per inch. You might even have different thread counts on the two sides. Count the threads per inch on both hubs & both knockoffs. Hold a ruler up to the threads & count how many there are in an inch. Or half that many threads in 1/2 inch.

Your car should have the 12 thread per inch hubs & knockoffs since it is earlier than #26705. The later 8 TPI would work if the knockoffs matched.

Wouldn't hurt to make sure that the hubs & knockoffs are installed on the correct sides of the car also. Counter clockwise to unscrew on the left side of the car & clockwise to unscrew on the right side of the car. Folks have been known to install the hubs on the wrong side of the car which makes them self loosening instead of self tightening. Since the only difference in left & right hubs is the thread direction, it's possible that the PO put them on the wrong side or even used the wrong hubs to save buying a new one. Better have a look at the front ones also.

To make matters worse, some Moss knockoffs were reportedly too tight to properly screw on to the hubs. If the thread counts are correct & the knockoffs screw onto the hubs without excessive force, you should be good to go. If they screw on very tightly or won't go fully on, there is a problem. They should go on pretty much all of the way with hand tightening. The hammer only needed for the last turn or so.

Good luck,
D

Thanks, Dave, the threads are correct for my car. Now the problem is Moss does not have them due to mfg problems in England. They do not have any idea when the will get the problem solved (since July of this year). I'll have a while 'till I need it due to the gear box being out of the car at the moment. Then if they don't have it I'll go elsewhere but Moss has a good price on this and they do have there discount.

HI Dave. TH, Don't hold your Breath till moss gets them I have a feeling like: Why carry two when the prefered 8 TPI units will do!??---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They are periodically available from independant suppliers [On E-Bay] that are having both types made for them in the UK.--- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Are you thinking there is more than one manufacturer in England? How many can they sell for cars like ours?
They probably all get them form the same place. If so then there may be defects in them too. Who else sells them?

Nope TH, They are top of the line. They are produced by small independant vendors. They are not cast in India and machined in the UK like some others I know are. Further, the Healey is not the only car that uses this particular Hub/Knock Off. Did you know the MGC utilises the same parts as the Healey just to name one?. Consequently, the broader Marque use of this part allows more than one vendor source to exist.--- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif-Keoke

A US vendor to contact for this part is: Healey Surgeons.

P.S. Get two a left and a right hand one. The part # is; WHL-024. But tell Inan exactly what you need.

IMOP, They hold tighter and are simpler to tighten up and remove TH.--Keoke

If you want the 8 TPI Items the Part # is: WHL-025

Th, try and get a hold of both types of hubs. Look closely at the thickness of the hub (where the threads are) and you'll see why there's a preference for the 8tpi.
