Platinum spark plugs...?

Question: any body here have any success with platinum plugs and comletely stock ignition?

I tried them decades ago, and deemed them inappropriate (for my own Healey anyway), but this MKIII I drove today had them fitted, along with a "high speed cutout", and I'm wondering if the ignition isn't strong enough to jump the gap consistantly at high RPMs.

I didn't have time to try a set of NGK BP6ES (my plug of choice) today, nor did I want to "dirty up" a new set that I keep around. If I can find the last set I took out of my own car, I'll try just a plug swap, keeping all other settings the same.

Thanks!

Randy,
I just purchased a set of NGK BP6ES plugs and was wondering what gap setting you use for them on a Healey.

Check the book! Pretty sure it's .025"

With the MSD 6AL, I think I was going to experiment up to about .032" but haven't had the opportunity yet...

Hi Randy, yes I have been using the Bosh Platinum WR7DP plugs since year one and they work just fine and last along time. I run them at stock gap on points and 0.040 on the Pertronix ignition..__Keoke

I ran them for a while in my BJ8 with the Pertronix ignition and didn't like them so much. BTY, I use NGK BKR6E and BKR7E with a .30 gap using the Pertronix ignition in my race car and had my best dyno results.

I have been using the same set of Bosch platinum 4218 ,
( WR8DP ? ) plugs since I reassembled the car. I also have a
pertronix 40kv coil and a pertronix distributor along with
magnecor 8.5mm wires. I gaped them at .035" but after reading what doug said, I am wondering if I should close them up to .030 " ?
I do have a small amount of missing as it approaches red line.
I was never quite certain if I wasn't getting enough fuel flow or the spark was breaking up a little bit at max RPM.

NGK plugs have worked great in our jet skis over the years.

I bought these Bosch platinum plugs from Moss and see that Keoke is using WR7DP. What is the different between WR7DP and WR8DP ?

Maybe I should try some NGK plugs .
Or close the gap to .030 on my Bosch 4218s

Just the heat range ED.---Keoke

Thanks for the insight guys! My thinking is that there isn't enough ignition (current) to push the spark across the gap at higher rpms.

Maybe closing the gap to .025" (approximately .029" now) would make enough of a difference...

Personally I'll stick to the NGKs, but since this car already has the Bosch Platinums fitted, I'll try to make them work. The plug coloring looks good, so I'm not suspicious of the fuel mixture...
