Planting Cactus

I think next spring we're going to replace all of our trees with cactus. No rain to speak of for two months, all the grass is burnt up and some of our trees are feeling the lack of water with constant triple-digit temps included. Haven't mowed grass for the past 6 weeks and it still doesn't need cutting. Far from normal for sure!

I get your point.

Paul - are the trees actually dying? or just browning leaves due to lack of water? Their roots go down pretty deep, so don't rush to remove them. And from what I've heard ... cactus don't provide much shade.

Lol - so true!
We've had a reasonable amount of rain during our "monsoon season" but most of our trees are Pinion and Juniper which are pretty hardy in dry conditions.

Looks like later in the week things cool a little and starting Thursday a 4 day stretch with at least a fair chance of T-storms / rain. Fingers crossed for you.

The rain predicted later this week will be welcomed by everyone around here! My neighbor recently put out 2000 plants and has to irrigate them ($$) to keep them from dying. The heat is bad but no rain is a killer for farmers. PJ

We had a real good T-storm early evening. Trying to will it to go east for Paul!

Send some our way! Here in NE Connecticut we've had under two inches of rain since March. Soil is like powder. Last ten storm fronts got to Hartford, then magically evaporated before hitting us. Same thing just a few hours ago.

What part of CT are you in?
