Plane crash footage

that's an amazing video. Looks like all 7 on board would have been killed almost instantly.
 
Stall?
 
My guess:

Left wingtip stall due to a climb that is too steep.

Plane slowed down too much on steep climb-out.

One tip stalled and that wing dropped.

He turned opposite direction (right rudder) and slowed plane even more.
Then other wingtip stalled and dropped the other wing.
Too close to ground at that point.

When the left wing dropped he should have pushed the yoke forward and used left rudder (to gain speed).
It's not always intuitive to point a plane at the ground when you're dropping, but it's often the only way to gain speed (and lift).
He might have still hit the ground in a hard landing but at that altitude and speed, it was probably his only hope.

Heavy cargo or weight/balance issue can make response of controls even worse.

Anyway, terrible outcome!
 
I agree Nial... as soon as I saw the wing drop my gut said "stall". We've all been there. Nose down and rudder input is the way to go. Unfortunately a stall that close to the ground leaves little room for recovery.
 
Definitely a stall occurred. Will be interesting to learn the cause. Being cargo plane I'm wondering if underlying issue was weight and balance, or just pilot error, or both, or something else.
 
Does anyone else find it strange there is no reaction from the driver till 1:19?
 
It is a classic stall. And almost saved it.

Cargo shift, improper W & B or run away stabilizer/trim are the theories.

It happened early after rotation as the gear is still down.

I would guess improper cargo loading and a seriously aft CG. They had their hands full the minute it got airborne.

oh there was; just not an audible reaction. His initial reaction was to start backing up as soon as you could tell the plane was having trouble.

Yeah but you would think he'd say something .
 
Odds are the cargo shifted when it rotated and from that point on they were just along for the ride. I believe a DC-8 did the exact same thing many years ago with the same results.

Maybe, but personally I would not have reacted audibly unless there was someone else in the car with me.
