Piston to bore clearance.

On my XK 140, it was easier to pull the piston and have a professional come to my house and re-bore a match to new pistons. It was done with the engine in the car and only the head and crank removed. Fit new bearing for no apparent reason except I was there already. Get it done and forget it. Not all that expensive in the long run. Not a lot of work for me. (I lived in Santa Monica at the time so I had a choice of machinists willing and wanting to come to my house, I doubt I'd be so lucky up here)

Anthony7777,
I have all the rust repaired or replaced and all the structural welding done. At the advice of the local Healey guru I installed gussets (as factory on the rear outriggers)on all outriggers both fore and aft and installed 12 gauge reinforcement plates on all outriggers and the rear frame extensions. Hopefully I won't loose my door gaps after hitting the first pot hole. As for the engine, I want to do what is prudent but not what is unnecessary. Now is the time to do what is necessary. If the bores are good and pistons good I would consider honning, new rings, all new bearings and check the crank and cam. Thanks and have a good day!

thanks for the input. Maybe I should ask if oversized rings exist for stock pistons? I was thinking that if a hone cleaned up at around .005" over, I could fit the stock pistons with the oversized rings with proper ring gap tollerence. What do you think about Tahoehealey's experience with his XKE?
