I just recieved a new set of pistons for my 1275 from Moss. The wrist pins a totally free floating. There is no provision for circlips. The question is, What keeps the pin centered in the piston and away from the cylinder wall.

The wrist pin / gudgeon pin is a press fit to the connecting rod. It is known as an interference fit and it retains the gudgeon pin in the same relative position to the connecting rod, but floats in the piston.

I haven't pulled the old ones as yet so I didn't know. I'm not too sure I like that set-up but I guess it must work. Thanks again.

Don't try to beat them out. They must he heated to 600* f and then removed.
Same thing going back in the new pistons. The rods need to be heated.
This is best left to a machine shop for R&R of pistons with interference fit wrist pins. All 1275s use this set up.
