Pinewood Derby

I think all mine had that raised edge so high that I had to grind them down so the wheel would even turn ---- period. Jeeze I'm bad luck looking for a place to happen sometimes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Here's a couple of 20 year old pinewood derby winners from the 80's. My sons actually "helped" build these cars!

The real secret to speed (don't let this out) is extend the wheelbase as far as you can within the confines of the length of the block by cutting new grooves on the bottom side. You can run an unpainted block and win every time.

Back when my boys were in the scouts, I did a pinewood derby car for the adult division - substituted a regular chunk of 2x4 carved into a Cobra - complete with wheelwells and tacks for headlights. They tried to disqualify it, but it met every rule in the book (wheelbase, weight, etc) Won the adults division and people's choice awards two years running I still have it, I'll have to try and get a picture of it to post.
