Good morning all,
what's the consensus on pilot bushing lube upon install? Grease, soaked in oil, or nothing at all. Also, my last bushing fell out of the crank on it's own after I had replaced it some time earlier; anyone ever have that happen? I had bought it from one of the suppliers at the time and I remember that it didn't take much force to knock it in. I'm not sure if the bushing was defective or if the hole in the crank is goofy. Anyway, in addition to my first question about lube, how much resistance should I expect when knocking this new bushing in?
as always, thanks for the help:smile:

Bushing should be a good tight fit upon installation

Loading a small piece of felt with grease and positioning it in the bottom of the flywheel hole is a good way to lubricate the Shaft

If it's an Oilite bush, it should be soaked in oil for 24 hours. otherwise, a little lithium grease. The felt suggestion seems like a good idea. The bush is a friction/tolerance fit. They shouldn't be overly difficult to install, but should be loose either. Make sure the hole is very clean, and use some Loctite if it feels loose, and lubricate afterward.

image.jpgHere's a photo of the two. The short one is the one that fell out. I can't think of why they would come in two different sizes. The new one is .005" larger in diameter as well, so hopefully that will solve my problem. I'm curious as to how it's going to fit, given it's longer length. I'll check with the supplier and see if it's oilite.
thanks for the replies!

The longer one is correct, I don't remember ever seeing the short one before

thanks Bill,
my guess is I was sold the wrong bushing last time. I put the new one in last night with the loctite idea from Gerard and the grease soaked felt idea from Keoke:smile:.
thanks everyone!
