So if I find him some grits somewhere....
Will he knock a few bucks off the Elva wheel? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

BTW....I saw a 59 Fairthorpe Electron for sale in England last year with Climax & front disks as STANDARD equipment.
(it was a total resto)

Met a guy....Chuck Chance at the Nelson national last month who is running a Courier in EP.
Showed me his dyno sheet.....184 hp & 179 lb/ft @ 7450 out of a 1622.....

Dave:--184 HP! Holy Crap!....For how long can it do that?....10 minutes?

Anyway, you'll be fine with 10:1 in a 1622.
My crappy 1500 has been running 10.25:1 for the last few years. Just watch max revs and be sure to check ignition timing at high RPM and you'll be fine (I'd suggest 32 degrees at 5000 RPM to start out). Also, run race gas or at least Sunoco GT 100 (100 octane unleaded).

Jeff:--Yes, you should come out and vintage race!
The guy in the red Midget (with white hardtop) came from your area (he's run at your track) and he had a shorter tow than I did. Vintage racing is prefect for keeping us old men out of trouble. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif
And technically there is "history" for a Coventry Climax in a Sprite (I'm guessing that you already know this, but others may not).

Here is some info and small pictures of "XQHS".

XQHS was built by the Donald Healey Motor Company during 1962 to a Les Ireland design, allegedly from earlier sketches by Gerry Coker. Built as a prototype to assess the viability & performance advantages of fitting a 1100cc Coventry Climax engine, the car was also fitted with disc brakes on all four wheels.
The chassis is original Sprite Mk1 modified to accept the special aluminium outer bodywork & unique forward hinging bonnet made at the Donald Healey Motor Company by Bill Buckingham.

That's what I thought....
And that's why I was keeping an eye on him.
(we have the same builder)

He was having some heat issues....
Or at least I'd call 230 a heat problem.
The engine was running fine though and no steam.
(Maybe the gage was wrong)

1100 Climax engines are the easiest to find.
Everybody is scooping up the 1300 and the 1450.
Now....Have you ever seen the rebuild cost of a Coventry engine?

BTW....There is history of a Cosworth YB in a Pinto. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I believe I know of one for sale, though you may have to buy the Elva Mk I-B sportsracer, to which it is a spare, along with it.

I asked at a VARA race once if they'd let me run the Climax in the Sprite. "Sure, if you can prove it was the one they did at the factory."
Shucks.

Nial, I think Pittsburg or BeaverRun is only about a six hour yank for me. A friend has a Datsun 510 that he vintage races, and a HUGE 5th wheel trailer, so there's room to throw one of mine in with it. We've both talked about it, but our work schedules are just hideous right now. No time to do anything to any of the cars to get them vintage race ready. Well, the Fiat is ready, but....it's a Fiat!
I may even have to miss the next Waterford race, and that's only a 20 minute pull from the house!
