along with some other things. I spent the day repairing the damage to my truck caused by the tread separation of the tire on the way to get the bugeye bonnet. I fixed everything and got my new tires mounted and began to look over the project ahead.
Lots to be done. Don't you wish you could just work on the things you wanted to work on? anyways, pictures
My truck, the new midget front on and then the good side and the bad side and the wonderful seats, and then the bonnet I got from coastalman via the 800 mile round trip.

Oh gosh Kim. I have a much better grill than that for free if you want it. Not too preaty but good enough to paint.

It will be a while before I get around to the grill jack  That one is good as far as the metal and I will most likely media blast it and try one of my special paints on it. Anglia GT, that is a Kawaski 454LTD in the background. I bought it new in 86 and just did a frame up resto on it. I need to put trun signals on it and fix one other problem and it will be roadworthy. Its got 50hp and will run about 110mph so its fun but not so good on gas, my 200cc honda twinstar gets 70-90mpg depending on how I drive it.

I paid over $80 for 4 ounces of this stuff and will try it on the grill and most likely the wire wheels. I don't know how far it will go but it is expensive. A gallon is $1600. The thing is that after its sprayed you have to clear it and a few drops of a candy color in the clear can give a really unique chrome.
Here is a video of the stuff being sprayed on and how good it lays. You need to get it ot bare metal and then as shiney black as you can for painting with the chrome paint, its self etching.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmuNV9htHqE

Neat stuff. I also have a grill hanging in the Barn that
I could add to the project. Blade/bumpers too. Not like new but not too shabby either.
Lemme know if I can help.
Here's pic of the grill and the front blade.
Hit me a pm if interested.
I'm just down the road from where we hook up at the peanut dude.
Congrats on the new arrival.

Gundy, Coastalman says hey to you. I might take you up on some of that stuff but its too early to tell exactly what I need yet. I am anxious to spray some of this mirrachrome and see how it does. If it works out well I might do a lot of stuff, if it doesn't then I might need to buy a lot of stuff. I hope to get deep into it this winter when its too cold to go out and play.

Kim, I redid Bugsy's Grille with some chrome paint. Since his grille is minus an eyebrow or large smooth area that needed to be painted the grille even up close appears like it is stainless rather than chrome. I've got a better grille as well with an eyebrow that needs rechroming or someting like Mirachrome Process or that Jay Leno "Chroming Process" we discussed on this list a few weeks ago. Rechromed Grille = $300+ from a guy on E-Bay, would like to find a less expensive way to get a grille looking nice for a daily driver not a concours car for a reasonable price.

I can BLACK Krylon. <$10.

Fine for a driver.

my 2 cents.

I'd take that grille first and foremost do a little bit of electrolytic rust removal. 12 hours in the soup and it would look a whole lot different. Do that before you even start to think about sanding and cleanup.

Kim, it is good that you picked up the BE bonnet last weekend. This weekend is shaping up to be very bad in Oriental. Lots of moving cars, boarding up and stowing loose gear. Pulled the boat out yesterday. I hope we don't have to evacuate because then it is very hard to get back in. I'll send you pictures of the results. Maybe I need to move to the mountains.
Charlie

There are also some very good powder coating "chrome" finishes which are supposed to give excellent results
Graham

I had tried one version of the powdercoat chrome-type finish on a Mustang 302 intake. It looked OK but not chrome-like. Nice and shiny but not reflective. I'm interested in what the MirraChrome paint looks like. Jim

Nice project Kim, I hope it's finished by 2014!!

Charlie,
Hang in there, and hang on to something solid ;o}
Irene is just going to miss us, but I feel bad for those not so lucky
Remember, Fords and Chevys can be replaced, but they don't make Spridgets anymore so if you have to leave take the MG
Phil

Thanks Phil,
Right now I have places for both of my LBCs and will trailer out the big Healey if we have to evacuate. Storm path right now is showing it hitting about 30 miles east of us.

Kim,

I was referring to the Red bike, not the Black one.

The red one is a 1970 SL-100 Honda. It fixed it up somewhat and it runs good and put a new carb on it and all but I never got a title for it and so its not streetable. It is a good dirt bike, its a 4 stroke. It needs a battery because its not a magneto type but has a separate generator and coil with points and all so it needs some power to run. I would put that in someone's home for $400 because I need the room and that is about what I got in it. It would be great for a kid. I could be restored but its too rough to make a show bike but it is 41 years old and in working order. If someone could get a title for it, it needs signals and mirrors and would be a good short commute/errand bike.

Come up here. I would make room in my garage for that Healey  You take care of yourself Charlie. Toys can be replaced but people cannot. There is quite a stretch of just small pine trees between you and Goldsboro. You would want to be clear of that if some bad stuff started. Where do you guys usually escape to if you evacuate? I never asked how your area did with Hurricane Floyd. I remember hearing that Kinston took a lot of damage.

I think I will try media blasting first and get all the chrome off or at least all the flakes. Looks like the grill with fit in my blast cabinet. Take it all down the the bare metal and put a good etching primer on it, then black basecoat, then clear, then the mirrachrome, then clear over that(which does dull it a little but it needs some protection)
