I am looking for color pictures of an original (or restored to original) '73 MGB engine bay so I can get the fasteners, hoses, paint, etc. right. Anyone help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a copy of Clausager's Original MGB with MGC nf MGB/GT V8? If not...try Amazon.com....

It's one of the best references for "originality", realizing that these cars are getting a little long in the tooth, and most have had many "changes" made by previous owners. Even some original owner cars are no longer as they left the factory.

No I don't have that book. The part I need to know right away is are the hinges for the bonnet bolted in place when the engine bay is painted? Also are the bolts for the bonnet locating cup(?) painted or plated?

Adrian

As I recall, it appeared as if everything was bolted in place when they painted the shells. The hinges and the receiver for the bonnet latch were the car colour. Almost as if the things were "dipped" in paint. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks Yoda. That's how I remember it but my brain cells are now dying faster than they are being replaced. Anyone else have any opinions(or irrifutable proof) on what should be painted under the bonnet at this time? A couple of concours winning engine bay photos would be really great.I've searched the net quite a bit today and havn't come up with anything I can use.

Should look like this?

hehehehehehe - in a word, Jack: NO! Not from the factory - but it sure is pretty!

Ooooooooooooooooo.... (visual of Garfield lips and all - from the christmas cartoon).

Doc is right on...The hinges and everything are painted. My original paint 78's are like that....If they weren't 1/2 an hour away in storage I'd gladly snap a pic.

jlaird,

looks like a non stock Midget to me. Thanks though.
I was on the MGplace website looking at MG brochures and there are engine pics in them. The site is being rebuilt so I'll have to wait until they are finnished to see the large versions of the pics. I could make out the painted hinge bolts though.

(what kinda name is THAT?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif)

WHERE in Canada are you?? I do have a very good friend that would assist you just outside Toronto.

Please answer direct to ed@justbrits.com as I do not check here that often.

I don't think that there is any difference between a 72 and a 73. I'll take a photo of my 72 and post it. Other than a new Lucas super coil, it's supposed to be right on. Have to do it tomorrow though. "T" day today, away, no time. PJ

Thank you in advance! How about a pic of the inside of the boot too? I'm pretty sure the tank mounting bolts are painted but would like to be sure.

Adrian,Here's the 72 engine photos I promised you. Sorry it took so long, but I'm still trying to figure out this %#$* photo program. Hope it works! If it does, copy the images and blow them up. Their high definition, so they should come out fairly well.PJ

Paul,

Wow! That's one nice engine bay! Thank you so much for posting the pics. This will be a great help in trying to get my engine room to look right. Is this your car BTW?

Adrian, Go to the post, (72 Engine Bay Photos). I re posted the photos in a different format. You'll like them better. I think I have this new photo program figured out. Oh yes, the car is mine. Finished it up in May of this year. PJ
