Pictures From My Cross Country Trip.

When I was young and foolish yet (say it fast three times), I would drive the length of Pennsylvania in the MG on Friday night, to see my girl in Philly over the weekends. First thing done was to stop at the PA Turnpike's first Howard Johnson's and get two large cups of their coffee. One to drink then, one to set on the doorsill for later. By the time I'd passed Harrisburg, just the thought of drinking that cold second cup would keep me awake the rest of the way.

That reminds me of my Army days in Pittsburgh, also "young and foolish. I made the trip between there and Oklahoma City more than once without sleeping. That was before interstate highways. Had some little pills, NoDoze I think they were. Probably didn't work that well as I almost drove off the end of an unfinished bridge one night. Some day I would still like to get back there to see the city. I understand it looks a lot different now.

Marathon drives are off my list of things to do, now. When in the Air Force we used to go from Buckroe Beach, VA to just north of Pittsburgh and back on alternating weekends, in the MG. Winter trips were sometimes "challenging". :smirk:

Last long distance run was in the early 90's, from Tampa to Cleveland in the MG. Pit stops only. That'd be about the same duration as PGH to OKC. Wouldn't consider it now. Doug has my respect.

Know what you mean. These days I seem to start nodding off about the time I get out of town.

Cracker Barrel is one of my #1 breakfast restaurants. They also have a really good grilled haddock. Frequently I substitute this for their catfish. Causes some eye rolling and an upcharge but this is our special breakfast day that we do twice a month.
