I appreciate all the advice on the insurance... I went with Hagerty and was very pleased with the price and the terms. I really want to drive this car as much as possible. I thought I would post a picture of me along with the pictures of the 61 TR3 so you guys would know who I am and get a look at the car. You'all know we like pictures! The registration says it is a 61, but I feel from all my research that it is a 60. The number is TS71469L. What do you think??? I love to tinker with things and I can just see this car evolving. Reading the posts on this forum has led me to belive I will need your guys help along the way. Thanks for such a great board....

Here's the link to the pictures:

Nice rides Capt. Roy. Must be nice on bright sunny days to take a TR3 down to the docks and hop on the boat to catch a little sea spray. Jealous? Of coarse I am !!!! I live in Ohio. The lakes here are frozen this time of the year. Tip ups probably has a different meaning in the South.

Nice Ride:

You boat looks like a Whaler knock off, I assume you Charter.

Did you install helper springs on the 3 to tow the boat?!! lol.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Very impressed with the TR3A and wish I lived in the warmer and sunny climate. As for the year of the TR, I think it is a 1961. I'm restoring a 1961 that I bought from the original owners and my Vin is TS66384L and your Vin is later then mine. The owners stated they bought mine new, so I'm assuming the title has never been tampered with. Anyways, who really cares what year it is, as long as it drives and looks good and yours sure does. Enjoy

[/ QUOTE ]If it helps any, TS71909L was built on March 28, 1960. It was always registered as a 1960, but it all depends on where the car was originally delivered and how long it might have sat. Many of them did sit long enough to have been "retitled" as later model-year cars.

So Andy, how are you able to tell when the car is built?

Looks great-- Is that a red orangy color or is that just the effect of the sunlight? I have a relatively newly painted signal red but I've seen that color in a fade mode that made it little more orange. Don't remember how many reds were made those years. Enjoy it!

Regardless of how many were made, I bet there are at least twice as many now! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Great car, Cap'n!

Beautiful! I hope you enjoy it for many years. I can't wait 'till my TR2 looks like that.
I gotta wait until the weather breaks in spring so I can have garage space to get going on mine.

Nice TR3.
I see you're in Clear Lake, I've been around there while on business in Houston.
My wife really likes Kemah, it's a very nice visit in our winter to get away from monochromatic snow.

Nice car! Do you have the fibreboard radiator shroud in place? Sorta looked like it might not be there... if not, this is probably something you'll want to keep your cool in a TX summer.

[/ QUOTE ]In my case, I'd gotten build records many, many years ago from VTR, ultimately via the TR Register in England. These were (still are, I think) much simpler versions of the BMIHT build certificates now routinely available (for around $50!) that gave basics of build specification and date. I believe this "simpler" build summary is still available for members of TRA here in the US and for TR Register members.
