I spent part of yesterday putting this together. Reconditioned rear from Quantum mechanics. New front seal. All new brake shoes and all the parts that go with it(inside). New hard lines, new straps, rotors cut and cable all insatlled. This is the first step in the replacment of the entire rear on my '74. I can't wait. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

I only have one comment.

Boy is the top of that workbench clean.

Since I knew I was having a few members over to help & learn I figgered I needed a work bench. I started building it at 9:00 on Thursday night and finished what you see by 11:00 pm. It'll be worked on more today.

Nicely done.

Black makes yer rear look fat, Vince. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Nicely done. Both diffy and bench. I'm jealous.

Happy birthday, BTW. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Nice work on both, and a happy birthday to you as well. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Why thanks on the Birthday and compliments on the bench. I've lived in this house for....wow 20 years now and finally have a proper bench. Man, just realized I was 21 when I moved into the basement of this house and use to clean the gutters and mowed the lawn for rent money. Been a long time coming.

Looks great!

And now that I'm an MGB owner, I guess I'll have to start learning about this type of stuff.

The minute I saw the picture, I thinking the same thing about the clean workbench as Jack.

And, happy birthday!

BTW-Since you have it handy, could you measure the overall width of the MGB axle? (not including how far the studs stick out). This is for a future project I'm just starting to think about...

From backing plate to backing plate it's 48". Adding the drums probably brings it to about 52" and them the axles stick out out an additional 4" so overall the B axle is between 55"-57".

Better paint that bench before it gets greasy!

I'm surprised you didn't rebuild that axle yourself since you take on so many projects far more involved. Axles are easy!

Just finished installing 1/8" Masonite to the top, the front face will be finished and then I'll add some aluminum angle to the front edge. Eventually doors and such but for now it's an amazing transformation since a week ago when the Jag went north. The bench already has been pounded on and filled the underside with my spares

What happened with the rear was, John Esposito was looking for a Wire Wheel rear and I was looking for a 4 lug. He happend to have one already that had been gone over but the front seal. He swapped me for it...even. All I needed to do was all the stuff I mentioned earlier and the front seal. I'd a gladly done it myself but this was just a chance happening.

Here the bench now.

Well not 100%. Remember that he is about 100 miles away and I drive an expedition but we had a tech session with our club near there so I carpooled and yadayadyada...still a great deal. Luckily I also got the drums for free and they were able to be cut so... I CAN'T WAIT!!!. My rear is twitching something fierce.

Bench area looking good but don't use that grinder/wire wheel/polisher in side. Makes a heck of a mess. Get a stand for it and move outside when you have work.

I agree, NEVER use a polishing wheel inside a garage. The fibers and rouge stick to everything and are a serious pain to clean up. I learned the hard way many years ago. Now I prefer to farm out big polishing jobs.

>>>my rear is twitching fierce<<<
It gets worse with each passing year, and you no sooner get that taken care of then someone suggests you should get a new shifter, oh it never ends!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif
