Pics of my car paint in progress

WOW, gives me hope. Would like detail on your paint selection. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Details on paint selection will be forthcoming,
I promise, but right now, I'm tired.

Thanks,

Great job! I haven't painted in about 15-20 years and last time it was lacquer. This one stage stuff looks good - I assume you can block sand and buff like lacquer too?

More info please!

Randy

I believe the TR6's were originally painted in enamel. At least the 73 I am working on was. According to a old time professional body man, lacquer buffs out better then clear or single stage.

As I progress in the my restoration project, I opted to use PPG's Concept line of single stage and clear. I chose this over base/clear in that I could use the single stage as is for interior and a clear over it for exterior, and both use the same additives.

Also, I like you are a painter in training. I found that orange peel on the single stage could be easily sanded off prior to the clear being laid down. He is a pic of an old rocker I shot outside (just a test so I did not concern myself with dust). It has not been buffed.

Oldtimer: Thank you for correcting my misspeak. I think youare right on the original paint used on these cars.

I share your experience re working with the stuff after
it's on, ie, color sanding out troubles; but I have to
say if you're gonna shoot it, especially on the
body sides, have your track shoes on, cause it tends
to want to run.

I can't believe you got it done the last few days. We been dodging rain showers all day. Looks great! Where did you get the paint? I'm going to ned some iris blue single stage paint in the next few weeks for the bugeye.

Paul

Okay, Paul, here is the info I promised you.
The paint supplier was a sister store in Stockton, but
you have in your home town: B&Z Auto Color, Inc. 1507 9th St, Modesto, CA 95354. Tel. 209-523-1099.

The paint I used, forgive me if my previous post was
incorrect, but this is right cause the can is at my side..

Nason, Full-Thane Low VOC Urethane.

Hope to get to meet you some day. Are you a member of
the local auto club? I joined Valley British Auto Club
in Clovis. At that time, I didn't know about our local
in Modesto.

Randy: I haven't gone back to review my previous post
on the type of paint I used. To you and all others,
if I misspoke, sorry about that.

The paint I used was Nason Full-Thane Low VOC Urethane.

I think some things that helped me were Meguiar's products.
I used Mirka Royal sanding discs. These velcro to a DA --
1200 and then 1500 grit. Then went to Abralon sanding
discs 2000 and then 4000. This was a wet sanding system
sold by Meguiars at a car show booth one year and I went
for the "system" with the velcro sticking pads and the
DA as a kit. I did some hand wet sanding on bad spots carefully with 600; then 800; then 1000 grit before going to the DA.

Then for the polish: Again I went to Meguiar's. They have
a new polishing system where you only use one polish cream.
Then what you do is just change polishing pads, four, I
think, from most aggressive to least. First two are
wool and last two for final finishes are foam. What's cool
about that is that you do not get cross-contamination from
one cutting polish to the other. It's kinda dummy proof..
just right for me. This polish system is sold reasonably as a kit and is called: Meguiar's Solo One Liquid System. This reasonable price I mention does not
include the buffing machine, though.

Thanks to all for your kind comments again.
With best wishes to all,

I have not joined yet as I still do not have a running LBC car. We are closer than you think, as my cars are in my garage in Escalon at my Veterinary practice. I'm currently working on getting the shop winter ready.

Thanks for the tip on the paint. When you are done painting the TR send me a pm and I'll give yo a quick tour of my projects. I think I've got about a weeks more work on the shop and then I'll be able to move in completely. My wife will be happy to have the mess out of our home garage!

Tinster, I wish I had something to contribute to your restoration. Nice guest room, cold beer and good food sound really fine right about now!
