My car paint job in progress. Doing it myself in
the driveway. Pleased with outcome so far, but one
side of the car seems to be giving me trouble. Maybe
I'm getting more and more particular.

So is the deck lid and left rear quarter done? If so, it looks pretty good from here.

What's the problem so far?

looking nice. I noticed your wheel cap stickers have faded to pink, so have mine and they are only a few years old......
I saw an ad somewhere, where they were hiring out plastic tents for use as a spray booth. Are you getting any dust settling on the paint?
Regards
Craig

Paul, yeah, the rear deck lid is staying the same,
that's okay.
That left quarter panel has now become the subject of
more work. What happened, I found that when I polished
it -- actually ended up with a kind of burn-through
and gray looking colored spot.

So, went to reshoot it; got runs, etc, etc. Used a
to small glass touch-up bottle. Didn't work so hot.
This single-stage paint, I experience, and was told, has
a tendency to run.

Want to stick with it, but may run out of weather.

I can show you the right side of the car now, though.
Think it looks pretty cool.

Craig: Not so much dust as the darned insects.
I spray all around now before shooting with
insect poison to keep them away. I think they're
attracted first to the smell of the paint; then when
they fly over the darned fumes overcome them and...bang,
they fall right into the paint.

I'll tell ya, a spray booth would be really neat.

Beautiful job so far. You should be very proud.

And when yer done.............we've got a really
nice quest bedroom, good food, cold brew, a fast boat
and a TR6 needing a paint job!!

Awesome you are able to do this.
I've powder coated and baked a few skeeters myself.

For cheap, you can buy a 11x13 screenhouse. I picked one up just for outside painting. Keeps the bugs off.

They're a-coming, they're a coming. Can't believe it's
starting to sprinkle. Kind of messes things up.
Yeah, I'm getting there. Taking it one piece at a
time. If I don't like the looks, I shoot it again.
Eventually, I'll get there.
Thanks.

Okay, Paul, here is the right side of the car.
Actually, from the distance, really does it no
justice. Don't want to brag -- actually feel I've
outdone myself, to some extent. Really does look
nice, even on close inspection.

Problem is, I want the driver's side to look as good
and it is a bit of a challenge. Minor stuff.

Seems to do it right, I probably have to remove the
right inner door skin; door handle; lock set, etc.

Previously, I taped these off and managed to still get
acceptably good result on the other side; but, I've
got some paint buildup now around the handle and in order
to correct properly, have to take the other stuff off.

Didn't want to go there, cause I figure I'll destroy the
clips/fasteners, etc... then gotta wait how long for parts
and just been avoiding it...but seems inevitable.

Forum family has been great, even when I ask the most
ignorant of things. I appreciate the group.

Thanks for the support and interest.

Please, do not be concerned about the types of
questions, you're talking to the King of dumb questions.

Yes, it is the original color Carmine Red.

Only difference here, is that this paint is a single-stage
paint, which means it has the clear coat finish already
in the paint when you shoot it.

I think the original paint was lacquer which had no clear
in it. In my area of the country, the lacquer paints are no
longer allowed because of the toxins they allegedly place
in the air. I heard that the old lacquer paint may still be
sold in a neighboring county if I traveled there, but it is
still illegal to use in my city and county. The lacquer finish is not quite as shiny. Word is clear coating material provides UV protection and paint holds up longer.
Being a law abiding individual, I painted the shiny version and gave up a bit of originality.

Nice job!!! It looks great,

Ah...who did your left tail lamp? It kinda looks like a car in Puerto Rico. Don't drive too far with it like that.

I can't believe you got it done the last few days. We been dodging rain showers all day. Looks great! Where did you get the paint? I'm going to ned some iris blue single stage paint in the next few weeks for the bugeye.

Paul

WOW, gives me hope. Would like detail on your paint selection. Thanks for posting the pictures.

now I've had a second look at your car, I am noticing the black wheels. Looks superb. I've just had mine powdercoated silver........bummer. I really like the black with the ss ring and silver cap............I wonder if it's too late for me to change mine. Where is the phone number for the powdercoater...
Regards
Craig

Brosky: I swear, nothing, absolutely nothing gets by
you. I never thought you'd notice the other side.
Yep. That's the one that is still in progress. I just
don't want to settle, so I paint and I paint....sand and
I paint. The more I do it, gets more particular.

But, yeah, I got that tailight on a deal out of Puerto Rico.
Some guy claimed he didn't need it anymore...got in a wreck
and made his own tailights, or some such thing, so sold me
his old left light at a great price.....free and he paid
shipping. Some Cryptic story about possession...tried
to do exorcisms... all kinds of stuff. I'm not very
superstious, so I bought it and it doesn't fit, so I just let it hang there. Got ahold of some guy named Micky something or other who is going to perform an exorcism.
Coming in tommorrow. Expect it should be fine by the weekend. If it doesn't go well, I'll be putting it back on
the net for sale, but I'm optimistic.
Very astute of you, very astute.

Paul, we are neighbors: Tracy/Modesto. I promise if
you watch the thread I'll tell you the paint and where
to get it. I mean, there are lots of paint suppliers;
but, the company I bought from has a store right in
Modesto. It's late for me know, 11:42 pm. and tired.
The information will be posted, though.

Because you are local, let me say the city to buy the
lacquer, if you were so inclined, is from Dan's Supply
in Sonora, California. You know that is close. That's just
in case you want the original lacquer. I think they might
still sell it....that's what I heard, anyway.

I did shoot some of this laquer paint from a rattle can (because you can buy it in these small quantities and I used it on the portion of the body that sits under the windscreen) and the finishes between lacquer and single-stage actually look very close after they are buffed out. No question single-stage is a little shinier. My car actually looks wet at times when it's not.

Thanks to all for support and kind words,
