Picky rear axle paint questions

In view of the fact that the rear axle, brake lines and brake backing plates were all painted black in seems to make sense that the whole rear axle assembly was assembled off the car, painted black and then installed. If that's so, would the following parts have been painted black as well:
1. The brake line 3-way fitting
2. Visible portions of the wheel cylinders and adjusters
3. All emergency brake parts - transverse rod, bellcrank, cable housing?

What do you guys think? Is the fact that the brake drums were [/i]not painted black indicate that the brake parts were installed after the rear axle was painted and are properly left unpainted?

I agree it looks good that way but I still want to know how it was originally and then decide if I want to stray from the straight and narrow. Like leaving the heater valve and copper pipes on the engine natural metal rather than painted green.

I have an unrestored 56 100M, but I have slowly been fixing up the mechanicals
( brakes, shocks, front end, etc). I just looked at my car and can report the following:

1. The brake line 3-way fitting - looks like it was painted

2. Visible portions of the wheel cylinders and adjusters - looks like they were painted

3. All emergency brake parts ;
transverse rod - looks like it was painted
bellcrank – (do you mean balance lever ?)looks like it was painted
cable housing – can’t tell to much grease

I’d guess, by looking at my car, you could be right about the whole axle being painted as an assembly

Makes sense, doesn't it?

My car's a BN-2 with M equipment - original (real) intake manifold, carbs, cold air box. Repro (aluminum) louvered bonnet. I restored it 30 years ago and I'm doing a refresh now. Also correcting some errors, like the finish on some of the smaller bits.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks Michael. Looks like everything back there was originally black.

Do you recall any paint on the emergency brake cable? I can envision this being added as a separate assembly, already mounted to the brake lever, and not getting painted.
