Different!

different indeed - an acquired taste to be sure. I have thought about taking a Midget and grafting a station wagon back onto it. I keep thinking a VW fox wagon top (cut down) would look interesting.

sigh.....why didn't he at least keep the rear quarter lines & taillights?

Okay... I must be sick, cause I think it's kinda neat. On one hand, I hate that they wrecked a perfectly good Spridget... on the other, that's about the coolest truck I have ever seen!

Nothing like driving with a piece of glass pressed up against the back of your head.

Here's some information on it, looks like it was built by a racer as a parts hauler. https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C73242
I don't know where the photos posted above were taken, but looks like some sort of indoor car show. I noticed that the owner didn't take any extra pains to clean the mud off the tires. :yesnod:

It's unlikly that there are two of these running around GB, but I noticed that the registration numbers (at least the one it is to be sold with) are different and the one shown in the sale ad has a chrome roll bar added in the bed. As far as being a 1960, I don't see why not. It was probably built from a wrecked bugeye shell later on with the later box Sprite front sheet metal added to balance the squared off look of the rear. I does appear to be a quarter eliptic sprung car as no springs are visible in the rear shot and half eliptics usually can be seen from that angle. I would imagine that an ex works driver would have access to all sorts of spare parts from wrecked competition cars to work with.

How did you know where to go to find that?
Wonder how much cargo room there really is in that bed? Can't be much.
BTW, horrible color, shiny primer, IMHO.

That link was posted on the MG Enthusiasts board a few days ago and I happened to remember it. No special google skills on my part, it's just that I try to monitor about 6 British car bulletin boards every day for tidbits of information.

The tags are the same - RPN 707.

I would think that the fellows over across the pond would have access to a whole bunch of those parts to build something like that. Looks like it was well done. I agree with Tony on using the original side panels and tail lights. Would have given it some distinction as to what it originally was from the rear. I guess you could get a suit case in it, if it wasn't very big.

I know exactly what it's like:

While certainly a bit cramped, the real problem with my Mini Pickup was the heat in that little cab. A Summer's day here in Tennessee, with only those sliding windows for airflow, was like sitting in the prison hotbox out of "Cool Hand Luke." Sure was a fun little bugger, though.

And how about cruising down the boulevard in this beauty:

I have a photo somewhere of a Midget converted into what is best described as an MGBGT look-alike, down to a functioning hatchback. It was very cool. If I can find it, I'll post it to this thread.
