Understand theire location & they probably are correct....in '73, they changed the knobs in the '72-'76 dash to make them easier to operate...do your knobs have a dial behind them - that doesn't move with the knob?

yeah... they're (both the knobs and the dials) back lit too. So, I can see what position they're in at night. The proximity to the bottom lip of the dash pad is the major problem for me.... Makes it hard for me to get my left hand into a good cranking position

I can't understand why they did away with the glove compartment.

useless US government intervention...that Abingdon pillow dash is supposedly afer than the early metal dash!

Yeah, nothing like a 1/4 inch of vinyl covered foam to keep you safe in a head on accident /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Wonder if that phrase triggered something in the govt's big internet spook system...somebody somewhere is deciding we LBC-nuts are dangerous...they'll probably read all our posts for the next month or so...

(Oh, computer guy at NSA reading this: I'm a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel.)

Me too, retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel, with clearances you would not dream of. But all out of date, no one tells me anything.

Jack - my clearances were all updated in Jan 2005!

Hmm, think last time was an Industrial clearance with background about 1997 or there abouts. Is good for 10 years though as I remember. Not think I will need it for Bugeye.

Need a LBC secrets clearance though.

sheesh you guys are thwarting the US Gov's #1 security measure... Security through Obscurity...

Now we know WHY they're "listenin'". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Hearing any clicks on your phone lines? Or have that fixed that particular glitch?

Witness! the hard to turn knos in the '76 MGB dash...

yes, it needs cleanin' up in there. and yes, the engine's a runnin' in the pic. Was warming it up before leaving for work, and took the time to take a pic of it Fri morning. One thing that puzzles me though is that silver button on the console in the lower right area of the picture (to the left of the hazzard lights switch). I had the console out replacing the lighter last weekend and notice the back of that silver switch is not connected to anything. Prior to seeing the back of it I had assumed it was a blank, but it's got bits on the back side just not connected to any wires though. Any idea what that thing might be for?

Passenger Ejection Seat?

Looks like a DPO install...

I would suspect that I was hooked up as a horn button at some time or another...just a WAGS guess based on 40 years of MGB experience /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Not factory

No, definately not factory for anything...back in the 80's it was impossible to find horn brushes and a lot of DPO's hooked up a horn button on the console just to pass inspections. I have seen at least a dozen like that over the years. It looks like one of the instantaneous button like a horn would be...and them someone wired it up right when the brushes were available again.

well, it is definitely an instantaneous button. The wheel was changed out for LaCarra, which prolly came with a new horn brush kit/adaptor for the wheel.

Thanks for the info guys /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
