I've posted some pictures I took at the Barrett Jackson auction last month at https://www.coldplugs.com/bj2008.htm

The picture quality is generally poor, since (1) they are from a cell phone in low light and (2) I took them. I was surprised at the number of cars that sold for what seemed to be reasonable prices and there were even a few bargains.

Overall, this isn't an event for LBC people but it's great fun nevertheless. The vendor displays were outstanding. I got my fill of re-creations and retro-rods early on but did make some potentially useful contacts and bought some tools.

Re the pictures, there are no captions but I'll comment on a few of the cars:

The Anglia was a "woodie" in great shape. It sold for $15,000.
The yellow Morgan was flawless and went for $28K.
The Morris Minor truck looked perfect and sold for $26K.
My favorite was the dual-cowl Duesenberg - beer budget and champagne taste. It went for a million.
The '32 Ford chassis was built for display.
The customized 300SL belonged to Alice Cooper.
I don't think any of the Porsches pictured were original - all are modern repros.
I loved seeing the restored spark plug sandblasters (there's a picture of one) and was tempted. Maybe next year.

$15K for an Anglia.... 'bout time they were worth
something.
I knew of one that was an easy restoration, couldn't
find anyone to give $2500 for it.

VW only went for $3500

he lost his a.....

Actually the Ford Anglia you refer to? Ford had separate names for their wagons in the late-1950's, using either Escort or Squire, yup... Ford has used the name Escort for many years

And there are lots VW Variant's here in Calgary, I know of several including this one here...

Not bad shots for a cell phone. Great pics.

Sherlock,

I know, but it looked like it had "Anglia"
accross the front,so I thought I'd avoid confusion.

Apologies Doug,

I tend to be a literalist at times, perhaps to overkill /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif Like the fact that the a 1958 Continental is not a Lincoln (as Continental had it's own brand name back that year) I know... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Did it? I guess the buyer "won" that transaction. People were crawling all over that car and I thought there'd be more interest.

There was also a beautiful little Crosley that had period Braje speed equipment that went cheap.

thats what the result page said....

bad placement , it was the first car up on Sunday morning

I saw Nick Braje win his first race. In 1991!! He told me that his mother wouldn't let him race, so he always did it under an assumed name. When he won at Willow Springs, we all agreed not to tell his mom. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

He would have been in his seventies then, right? He just died a couple of years ago and kept the business going almost to the end. He never won a race before then? Amazing.

John, I think Nick was 76 at the time. What a great guy, and a real character.
That may have been his first win under his own name, though.
