Photobucket?

I wondered if we have any Photobucket users. Seems that site is having some problems.

This morning it took about ten attempts just to log in. Click "Login", and after ten seconds get a box saying "Ad free for only 99 cents". Close the box, now get Login with Facebook? Login with Twitter? but no normal name/password login. Click login again, another ten second wait, get the same "Ad free for only 99 cents". Close the box, now get the chance to login with username and password. It's now taken about several minutes just to log in.

After signing in, I choose an a photo album in my Library. The click response takes several seconds. I click Download the Album.

Photobucket asks me to Verify I'm not a robot. I follow the prompt, and get the "Download the Album" box.

Click Download, and nothing changes, no activity. After about 30 seconds, I get the "Verify has timed out. Please verify you are not a robot".

Do it again. Get the Download the Album box. Click Download - and again, nothing changes.

I've grown so frustrated with Photobucket's ads, slow response, and timeouts (even tho' I pay), I want to save my albums to HD and another photo sharing site.

Anyone else having problems?

Thanks.
Tom M.

I have an account, but it's not my main photo site (I much prefer Flickr). I just tried my Photobucket account and yes, it was very slow responding and seemed pretty wonky. I have a paid "pro" Flickr account which I much prefer.

Tom, I've used it for years and over that time they have made changes, some good and some Iffy. Every once in a while, historically, a problem arises and it gets fixed sooner or later. I think when they figure it's time for an improvement, something else gets messed up. PJ

Pulled a photo for a forum post this morning with no issues. Agree there are times it can be slow.
Pulled this one just now with no problem.

Thanks gents. I can see my photos and albums without problem. But man - trying the Download an Album is nuts. The vicious cycle of Prove you're not a Robot, followed by the frozen Download box, followed by Prove you're not a robot, continues.

On the other hand ... maybe I *am* a robot.

(and yes - I had one of these back in the 1950s!)

Photobucket is down completely for me. Just a 404 error. The Facebook/ Twitter login request sounds suspicious to me, like they were hacked and are trying to collect peoples passwords for as many sites as they (the hackers) can.

Thanks for checking.

My paranoid side gets me thinking, the whole bit-based system is close to collapse.

But that would *never* happen ...

Just logged onto Photobucket. No problem. Think the Facebook/Twitter login option has been there for awhile now.

I figured out what my 404 error was. The bookmark I've been using for the past couple years started with "https://s209.beta.photobucket.com/". The beta has been removed from Photobucket's URL, so the bookmark pointed to a bad address.

Update: After several hours, I've been able to download one PB album. Started around 10am EST today, and after dozens of timeouts and freezes, I've got one album (zip'd) with 22 photos. Not sure I'll live long enough to finish downloading all my albums.

Heck, I don't even buy green bananas these days.

And just for fun (?), I tried the Photobucket album download routine using Chrome with Ad Block. Ad Block caught 335 ads on the Download page, within eight minutes. This may have something to do with it ...

Thankfull, I have all the originals of my photos on my home computer. If Photo Bucket irritates me too much, I'll just delete what they have and walk.

Greg - see what happens when you try to download an album. Just jumping through the hoops to start the download is maddening. Then the download usually times out and you have to log in again.

I've got hard copies (original photos and slides) of everything - but I don't want to have to scan them all again. That's why I'm (trying to) download.

Took me less than a minute to download 51 images in a zip file of 14.5M. On top of that, Photo Bucket took about a minute to prep the Zip file.

Thanks Greg. Did you get asked the I am not a Robot question? and the "choose the photos with mountains" (or whatever).

It takes me ten to twenty minutes of logins, timeouts, etc. to get to Download - and then Download says "hmmm we have a problem. want to try again?"

good grief
