Could use a bit of help. Triumph TR6 1969

I've begun rewiring my engine compartment.

I am needing a photo of how the wires for the horn,
headlamp, turn signal, side marker, etc. are held
together at the front of the car. Are they bound
up in electrical tape? Or do they just go to the
individual components?

I am needing a photo of the wires AFTER they come out
of the black plastic split tubing.

thanks, as always!

No binding should be necessary after the wires leave the main harness.

Dale doesn't have a stock wiring harness. He has the Dan Master's Power Block system.

Dale, why are you re-wiring under the hood?? Are you just trying to neaten things up??

I'm putting in the same system in my TR3. Besides using the split black tubing, I'm using those plastic tie wraps at strategic locations. Also, where a larger bundle splits to a smaller one, I use a smaller diameter split tubing to cover as much of the lengths as possible. I'm only using the tubing under the hood, in the trunk and the section from the trunk up to the front. All the stuff under the dash is just getting held together with the tie wraps. I'm not using any tape, as I don't think it's neccessary, and doesn't look as good as the split corrugated tubing.

Thanks Art !

This will be my third attempt at getting the PowerBlock
properly installed. And I think I will be successful.

The first attempt I could not read a wiring diagram and
very little of the wire harness functioned. I gutted it.

The second attempt I got everything functional but I've
had two nasty breakdowns recently directly due to my poor
installation technique.

Therefore, I know the third time will be the Charm.
To a degree, yes, I am making things neater. But I
now have a tiny propane torch so I am replacing the
crimped bullets with crimped and soldered bullets.
Tightening things up a bit. A complete wiring system
sort out.

This is my driver's front area. Wire wraps about every 1.5"
but it looks unfinished to me. What do real TR6 wiring look like?

Thanks,

dale

The following thumbnails are from a '73, should be the very simular to your car.

Dale,
After finishing Dan's harness a few years back I left it with just wire ties and split plastic harness fro a driving season. I wanted to make sure I had easy access to everything in case I made a mistake or something worked loose. A year stretched to two and then I re-wrapped the whole harness with proper harness tape that you can buy from Moss or British Wire. It took about 4 rolls to do the under hood and under dash wires. The ends of the wrap are also secured with silicone tape.

Thanks all !!

Very helpful to me.

A final ?? for the PowerBlock guys.

How did you route the 8 ga, yellow wire from
the alternator to the starter?

I run mine thru the black split tube, then out
and across the firewall (behind the battery) and
then down to the starter along with the red battery
wire and starter switch wire.

thanks,

dale

Dale I taped mine as well. Finished all the taping after I tested everything and before I put it all back together. Not a fan of the plastic loom. I wanted to follow Dave's style but for some unremembered reason I changed my mind.
I taped my yellow wire in a small run that goes that direction and then joined a larger run on the fender .
I shoot some photos soon.

Mine (for the Master's H/L relay package and the Fan Relay = 2) are run back through the plug at the firewall, inside under the dash and back out to the spare plugs on the battery cable.

Dale,
Because the wire in Dan's harness is so big that routing does become a planning exercise, I grouped things by where they had to go. My power block is under the hood https://tr6.danielsonfamily.org/Wire_Harness_2.htm so all the under the hood wires stayed under the hood. It sounds like we did it pretty much the same way. You, kind of, have to forget originality and run Dan's wires based on where they will fit. And your power block location determines a lot of the running of wires. Just do what works best for you. There is no right or wrong way as long as it gets the job done.

Bob- If I ever do it again I will put my block in the boot with the computer brain.

Bob,

We used the same location for the Power Block.
My car had been gutted of all existing wires before
I began to install the Dan Masters wire harness.

So yeah, two handicaps right off the bat.
1. I could not read a wire diagram
2. No existing wires to suggest routing layouts.

thanks,

dale
