Phillip Seymour Hoffman has died

Bet that throws a monkey wrench into the next 2 Hunger Game movies, unless they've already finished shooting. RIP Gamemaster Plutarch.

My grandmother had a heart attack two weeks ago (in front of me), she is now in an assisted living home and suffering more each day from Alzheimer's. While I hate to see a life cut short, sometimes I wonder now if it isn't the easier way out. After spending 10 days-20 hrs a day with her, seeing more of her than I care to discuss, being one deck and helping administer not one..... but three enemas.....I think maybe I should take up drinking, smoking and gambling as a cure for old age...

The greatest creation of nature is the human mind, but more often than not, it's weakest point is it's ability to think!
And to think were on the path of legalizing more drugs! I'll say no more. PJ

Was said last night that his filming for the third one was nearly done. Bet they do like was done for Oliver Reed when he died partway through Gladiator, use existing footage recut with ahdn without cgi changes and a voice double to complete what may be left. He was supposed to have been clean 23 years, you have to wonder what drove him back to it.

Boredom coupled with an excessive amount of money, apparently.

Wow - that description covers a *lot* of folks these days. Especially when they spend the time and money on themselves.

sad - and maddening. Rabbi Haim's parable of the long-handled spoons comes to mind.

I thought he was great in Twister! He made the film more enjoyable and funny at times. What a loss. PJ

Must admit I've not seen anything he was in except "The Big Lebowski." And can't recall him specifically in that... been too long ago. Didn't leave an impression, apparently.

I see it (the addiction and the indulgence of it) as a character flaw, the money was simply available to him. Can't blame his demise on money alone. It's a tool. The convenient medium of exchange. But like a hammer, it may be used to build or destroy.

Anyone who acquires wealth through their honest effort is entitled to spend it any way they see fit: "Ownership is 'right of disposal.' " Hoffman chose to 'dispose' of some of his on a self-destroying substance. Others of means have, are and will do whatever they choose with it. Rewarding one's self first is no bad thing, what is chosen as that reward-for-effort, can be. Or not. Andrew Carnegie comes to mind.
