I had the same thought as Kurt. With all the ignition parts that have now changed, perhaps the problem is elsewhere... like a worn out pump, blocked tank vent, or similar.
I have had fuel pump problems in the past and know what they are like. I just put on a brand new fuel pump. But this cutting out is definitley the fire. The rich fumes from the half running were buring my eyes.
Kim, what are the symptoms exactly? you describe them as backfiring in an early post and stuttering later. Also, what colour are your plugs? were they wet?
Reading the posts I remember the last time I helped a Midget owner with a similar problem it was a simple oversite. The owner had neglected to lube the dizzy cam lobes and the point arm had worn down until the points could hardly open. Then trying to adjust the gap they would not close.
I had the distributor out and set the points. They open and fully close as confirmed by 0 ohms on my fluke. The points had not closed up on this one. The symptom is exactly what you would see with a bad condenser. Plenty of gas as the black fumes out the tail pipe indicate. Its runs good for a split second then cuts out and runs good again. Sometime you can find a sweet spot around 3k rpms where you can keep it running through the stuttering. Its cutting out.
That last post made me sound like a smart Alec. I apologize. I appreciate you guys. Lots of work lately and I am still kind of ticked off at this car and the simplicity of it kicking my butt. The new electronic ignition will be here in a few days. I will deal with it then. I am going to start by straight wiring the + of the coil to the battery and then trying it.
