About a year ago, I installed a Pertronix breakerless ignition on Ol'Basil (74 TR6). Before I installed it in the dizzy, I noticed a clear plastic strip with a # taped to it. I peeled the plastic off the pick-up module and installed the unit. To date I've had no problems (knock on wood). Last night I ran across the plastic strip in a can that I keep things like that. Got me to wonder; does it serve any purpose?
Anybody else remove one from their unit?

It's only a number for the module as far as I can see.
 
That looks like the sticker on the "outer side: of my module. The one I peeled off was on the inside, that is it was on the side facing the dizzy shaft (lobes). It was a thin, clear plastic strip with a series of #'s. (maybe a serial #).
 
When I put mine in back in 2001 the instructions it came with said it was a feeler gauge to set the air space. I know I had to file the screws holes to get the clearence about 15 0r 20 thou as I recall . I carry a spare in the boot as well as a breaker plate that's ready to go.I'll check the instructions on it.

Yeah, I have the points, condensor,etc on board too. There have been a few guys on the 6-pack site that say their Pertronix has not held up. I have no complaints,though.
 
Interesting.....checked the new unit(spare in the boot).It has the plastic strip,but makes no mention of it in the instructions.I got out my caliper as the new strip felt thinner than my old one.New one measures at 8 1/2 thou., old one measures at 14 thou.Also the mounting hole at one end is slotted to allow for adjustment.The one I'm running is not slotted,hence the filing to get what I thought was proper gap.
 
Slotted here too. Mine measures .032 inch. The white paper sticker attached to it reads "20Z-V4". And I found my instruction sheet with no mention of it what-so-ever.

Very distinctive TR6, Opa. Tell me, what is that plaque on the rocker cover and what ARE those carbs?
OK I zoomed in on the plaque and the carbs, I get it now. But what is on the other nipple of the brake booster banjo fitting?
 
Opa- Have I seen your car at either Portland, Bellevue or Vancouver or possibly all l3?
 
Thanx..It's been a great car.Owned it for about 17 years and put about 86000 miles on 'er.I put some info under new members, see another Canadian newbie.Plaque on rocker box is the specs of the(stock) engine,(mine is'nt)that way the people can read all about it's spec's.Bore,stroke,displacement,Bhp@4500rpm.,firing order,breaker gap,timing setting and valve clearence.(for a stock motor)Had it made up at a trophy shop.I should take a pic. and add it to picasa as I haven't fiqured out how to post a pic on here.Computors...AAAARRGGHH
The carb piece's area chromed tin coverS from Vic British.They sold 'em years back for 8 or 10 dollars each.adds to the bling and easy to clean,
 
And the "object" on the banjo vacuum fitting?

Wine bottle pourer thingie...had many a comment onthat thing as well as the Coors Light can on the coil.An American Coors can fits perfect BTW.Canadian ones are shorter and bigger around.

Probably, I go to all 3. Have been to Bellevue 16 years.not missed a year since I got the car I always enjoy the swap meet at that ABFM.I also try an catch TRiumphest as well depending what the exchange rate is.Been to 5 of those.I believe you and I have spoken several times at these shows.My brother and I are usually together,his 6 is blue and mine is red.Mine has 1975 TR6 OMA and OPA'S TOY written on the rear licence plate surround. Casey
