Pertronix Flame Thrower Distributor

Hi All,

I just received my distributor in the mail (Pertronix flame-thrower off E-bay) I have a question. I got the side entry one for my 68 sprite. I was just curious what plug wires people have used. It needs straight boots out of the cap and all I can find is right angle ones. They would probably work but would look silly. It appears that 8mm wires are needed too. I tried searching but have found nothing.

I used a Accel 8mm wire set from NAPA cut to fit and you have a spare set!

The only bad thing I've found w/ those is that if they are solid core, an inductive timing light will pick up ALL of the wires when you're trying to time it. My light starts picking up a signal when the inductive clamp is about a foot away from the wires. You can still time it; just the tach function is no longer correct (on the light).
 
? Hmm these are carbon core. Seem to work fine for me.
Are you sure you dont have a cracked boot or damaged wire?
8mm is a pretty good insulator.
 
I looked at the Accel wires and cant find any that have straight boots for the distributor. I got the side entry cap to clear the body on my sprite.

BRAND NEW !!!! it'll start before you get over the top of the fender w/ the clamp. Might be a good insulator for juice, but not magnetic signal. No radio noise though.
 
The 3008 and 3009 are 7mm copper core. The instructions for the distributor warns against using solid core. Hummmmmmmm. All the Carbon core seem to have the angled boots on the distributor side. I didn't imagine finding the right leads would be such a problem. What a deal. Must be a conspiracy! lol
 
OK this is what I did and it worked well. I bought the Accel carbon core wires and got the straight boots I needed from the wrecking yard. Hard to put on but with a little soap solution they slipped on. The hard part was crimping the ends on. I ended up buying the MSD plastic crimper for 6 bucks. The thing looks like garbage but worked quite well. I have wires now!!! But now I'm not getting fuel! Its always something I guess.
