When I bought my Bugeye a couple of years ago, it came with the personalized California license plate that read: "D BUGEYE". I was never particularly fond of that, so I just ordered a new one: "1959 AN5". When it's delivered in 6-8 weeks, I'll release the old plate back to the DMV in case someone else wants to use it.

I'm curious what other personalized plates people here may have? Please specify the state in your response so that someone in a different state could use the same idea (assuming you have no objection).

Postscript: For those in California, here are some other plates I found that are still available according the the DMV's website:

Well the one in my Avatar is now sitting in the garage as Bugsy I has departed to NH and Bugsy II is a long time away from needing a plate.

While not a Sprite, our MGB Tourer's plate (Tennessee) ID's the car's one-year only color: BLK2LIP (Black Tulip).

This is mine.......How this plate was available, I do not know.
In California, years ago, the DMV had a book which was published with all the personalized plate numbers taken.
After it became the size of a small city's telephone book, and the internet surfaced, it is now on line.
Just to let you know, because I tried, a new personalized plate can initially appear to be available, but will come up taken later in the process if the car it is used on is registered as non-operational.
Also, I just had my 1971 TR6's year of registration changed to the correct year of 1970 by showing the heritage certificate's date of manufacture document.

Mine (BOINK) were very hard to get in Oregon as the word was on a list of banned terms. :angel2: It took some effort to convince a special plate desk supervisor to believe that there is a Calvin & Hobbes book (Scientific Progress Goes Boink) to get them. They were on my 1962 Mini. When I moved them to a 1973 Mini and I had more trouble again. Interestingly, when I transferred them to the current Sprite, there was no difficulty (and only amusement at my local DMV). It's all a longer story, but the plate always draws a smile. The only trouble is that in Oregon, now, it's rather expensive to maintain them (due to a special fee).

A similar "personalization" as Rick's. NC allows "year of manufacture" plates for cars 35 years or older; and unlike custom plates there is no yearly fee!

and here is my personal plate... pretty obvious & not very creative, just carried it over from previous owner, actually it was 67 MIDGT, but when I went to get they allowed the extra letter.

I've never had a personalized plate but this one (below) caused me to refer to the car as "Spiffy 105".

This was taken at an autocross in PA around 1969. The car is a '67 thin-flange 1275 with the EN40B crank.
I still own it (but at this point, it's just a rusty tub.....much of its parts live on in my current race car). :friendly_wink:

Since the square body Sprites are easily confused with MG Midgets, My '62 once had a South Carolina plate that read "NOTA MG". Several conversations would begin with someone asking me if it's not a MG what is it?
