First time this has happened to me. An "exciting" ending to a camping trip...

This past weekend I was down in the desert with some friends, on a quick camping trip for a couple of days. Good fun, beer was consumed in actual moderation, played a little ad-hoc desert golf, saw some mighty sights (southern Utah is a truly magical place). Woke up Sunday morning feeling not-so-hot. Lost dinner shortly thereafter, and felt a bit better.

Decided to push on and drive home by myself. I was in my truck, friends in another truck leaving later. Made it about 30 miles of a 160 mile drive and for the first time ever came to the realization that I was not going to make it home. Exhausted, queasy, hyperventilating a bit. Not fun while alone. Limped the truck to the nearest town, about 100 miles from home, and went to the emergency room. eventually me and the Doc agreed that I probably ate something that didn't agree. My wife drove down, we stayed the night, and drove home on Monday. 2 days off work (let's hear it for sick time!) and I'm back to 100%

2 lessons from this. Always travel with your insurance cards (I had forgotten mine, had to call my wife for the numbers), and listen to your body! One of my friends would have been completely happy to drive me home, and it would have avoided all sorts of trouble. Quite the weekend.

Oh, and don't lock your keys in your truck outside the emergency room. Then you feel foolish and sick all at the same time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

And 1 day of keeping nothing down and another day of only clear fluids and popsicles leaves you feeling *very* cleaned out. Not a bad feeling, but I wouldn't recommend the methodology...

Drew - glad to hear it worked out for you....good advice all around...only 1 other thing to add..if you travel internationally, get international insurance that'll pay for everything until you get back to US & can file with your insurance company to reimburse them.

Sorry to hear of your experiences.
At least you're still around to complain about it!
Remember - It could be worse.
