We finally get most of our birds back and we love watching them out our kitchen window. Every once in a while, maybe once a day, all the birds will disappear suddenly, this morning I found out why! We now have a Falcon that I saw which lands in a tree adjacent to the house and sets there waiting! Beautiful bird! This picture isn't the one, but identical. PJ

I tried to get a photo of the one in our tree but with the slightest movement, it took off. :rolleyes2:

If I remember correctly, the fastest bird in the world.
Actually, I think the fastest animal in the world.
200 MPH+ power dive.

Reminds me of a story I have in my iTunes collection (I have the vinyl but "ripped it to MP3) called Jonathan Livingston Seagull, narrated by Richard Harris.

Ooo flashback. Before Mrs JP & I were married (we were engaged), my father ended up in hospital and we took the train from Toronto to Montreal to see him. My father worked for CNR so I grew up with a train pass and came to understand the err umm 'unique' clientele to be found on trains. (Likely including meeself) Mrs JP had never ridden the train before then.

NOTE: for this to make sense, the train goes Toronto - Kingston/ Kingston - Montreal - same train but in Kingston it meets the train to Ottawa.

Later in the evening I have dozed off and Mrs JP wakes me in a panic. She had been chatting with a fellow on the other seat - who is slightly innebriated (never make eye contact!!!) In the middle of the night he decides he has to go to Ottawa to tell the Prime Minister something - so jumps off the train to catch the Ottawa train - Oh and the middle of winter of course. Mrs. JP is in a tizzy about what to do - trying to explain to her that this is what happens on trains and we don't have to do anything. But - point of the story - before he went he gave Mrs JP the source of his inspiration, Jonathan Livingston Seagull - in French!

:ROFLMAO:

Handsome raptor. You can almost reach that speed freefalling @ terminal velocity. Wings and beak optional.

That's funny!

If we are to count speed not generated by the animal but by other forces (like gravity), I nominate Ham the space chimp as the fastest animal. 5800 mph.

If you haven't seen an eagle diving off the world's tallest structure in Dubai (and locating his handler), check this out:

Watch what happens to the bird when he locates his handler.

That's kind of interesting - our Son was just there,& emailed
a lot of pictures from that building.
