General Tech Pedal freeplay

Something usually overlooked are the clevis pins and actuating rods when trying to bleed brakes or clutch hydraulics. Over the years we've found numerous cars with ovaled out rods and worn clevis pins, causing so much "slop" in the mechanical parts that actual travel at the "business end" of the systems is reduced significantly. Something to pay attention to. Case in point are the pins in the photo, from two different customers' cars. Excess freeplay was quite evident in both but the owners couldn't find the reason they weren't getting a full pedal.

Typical wear from usage. I usually replace clevis pins and push rods top and bottom. When you factor in the lost throw from both being worn it amounts to half of the action.

Good point above can be a shifting problem in TR's. I make my pins from shoulder bolts by cutting off threads and drill cotter pin hole. Madflyer

Yeah. Add up all the slop in the pins and you could have nothing at all.

Had this happen in my BGT. The DPO left it for dead with clutch problems (none) when I found it and towed it home. Pins looked like crankshafts they were so bad. I replaced the pins and the clutch worked fine. I still have it hanging on the wall of shame with some other interesting stories.

We had quite a few "Wall of Shame" bits 'n pieces in the shop. And you're right about the stories. Many are "How did you NOT notice something wrong?!?"
