My 1098 only has a open pipe coming from the tappet cover. Also the oilcap on the valve cover issome what open. Is there a way to put a pcv valve on this motor. This in an effort to keep the motor some what clean. Any Idea from the racers among you

On my racer, I have the cankcase vent connected by a hose to the air intake plenum in front of my carb (I'm not running an air filter but the plenum is basically in the same place as an air filter). This provide a very slight bit of vacuum to the crankcase. Any fumes that are created are consumed through the carb. You could probably rig up a hose from the tappet cover to one of your air filters. In theory, air would be drawn in through the vented cap in this arrangement.
 
One of the advantages of using a PCV valve is that you can suck all the nasty vapors off into the intake manifold bypassing the carb and filter. You should be able to go to the auto parts store and pick up some off the shelf replacement parts for a different vehicle that could be easily adapted to your car. All you really need is a Tee and a pcv valve holder/body and a vacuum line to the intake.
 
If you do decide to use a PCV connected directly to the manifold, and this "should work", be sure to get a valve that is intended for a similar or smaller displacement engine. The valve is designed to have a minimum but not zero flow rate at high vacuum (idle). If the minimum flow rate is too great it will esentially bypass the carb idle air circuits & make idle settings too lean & hard to set. A manifold air leak so to speak.

Not so sure about the restrictor. The PCV is made to have very little flow at idle & then open up as vacuum is reduced during cruise conditions. A restrictor in the hose that was small enough to not bother idle would not let enough flow through to do much good at cruise. This is one of the reasons why there are different valves for different size engines.

I see in the moss catalog there is an oil cap that goes on the valve cover that is listed as a PCV valve. has a stub on it to conect a hose to the air filter or manafold. It seems to have some kind of valve built into it. dose any body have one like this on there car. Or should I attach an inline PCV valve onto the hose coming from the Camcheast coverand re direct it to the airfilter or manifold??

Just traded a Race preped Holly carb that I will no longer need for a 1275 motor. Its a complete motor with all the fittings and such.So I may be using the crankcase vent system off of this motor its a 1972, so it has a closed system. The motor itself will need a rebuild, so that will be put aside till next winter.
