Paypal problem?

Just went directly to PayPal as always, no problems....&, darn, nobody's deposited $2400 in my account!

I also was able to directyl go to PayPal by typing in their address and the link on Ebay.

Blargh-

Wife just told me, in passing, she got a strange E-mail from
PayPal this morning telling her some unauthorized user was
attempting to use her account.

She fell for it and got as far as typing in her account name
and password. When she got to line requesting a credit card
No. she stopped and closed out the link.

Has she just given away our PalPal account info to crooks?

Blargh!!

"Has she just given away our PalPal account info to crooks?"

Dale - if she went to a website and entered the PayPal account name and password ... 99% sure you've got problems ahead.

Tom

Yeah,

I figured she made a blunder on this one. I'm glad
she thought to mention it in passing.

I just changed our password and checked our status.
No charges today or for the past few weeks: as it
should be.

I can't believe a financial analyst fell for a
phishing scam so obvious.

Be sure you notify and forward that e-mail to Paypal as a spoof. It may help protect you if this turns ugly. Since she never "submitted" her name and password you may be O.K. (My husband almost fell for this too!!) Also..clean out your cookies and temp files on your computer. GO to <tools> <internet options> and under the browsing history click <delete> at the bottom tell it to <delete all> this will remove any saved passwords to accounts as well as cookies that may have been installed.
I would go to another computer and change your bank account passwords if you bank online. Change your credite card passwords too.
Seems paranoid I know...but its better to be safe than sorry.

Blargh-

She did submit our account info.
But not the credit card info, thank goodness.

I DID change the password, etc from another computer.

Her computer is off now, I deal with it in the morning.

thanks,

d

Double Blargh!!

What a freaking nightmare. So much time wasted

The identity crooks don't give up. This morning ..

Got another email from them confirming we had changed our password and..... 2 personal proof questions (we didn't)
Then a telephone No. to call so our credit card number verification would not be on the internet.

I closed the PayPal account from another computer.

poor wife is having to change all our internet banking passwords, accounts, credit cards used, etc. Nightmare

These SOBs really deserve to be in prison.

d

Well they have your email down as having responded. You've been social engineered once, so of course you are going to be inundated...

It's probably overkill, but I'd get a virus scanner on that machine asap too, before hooking it up the the internet again for preference.

btw: Thanks to the miracles of modern technology, if they are using asynch javascript as part of the phishing scam you dont have to 'submit' in the classic sense any more to have them harvest your userid and password. It can be set up to go automatically when you type it in.

Scarey huh?

Alana,

I took her computer out of the network last night.

This morning I installed a clean virus checker and two
mal-ware and spybots cleaners. All came out clean. I
removed ALL financial accounts from her machine before
I put it back in the network/

Canceled all existing accounts with a second computer.

Opened new accounts with a third computer, new credit cards,
new passwords, etc.

All darned day wasted- could have been driving Amos before
the afternoon monsoons arrived.

Blargh!!

Hi Tom;

I just read this post & checked my PayPal acct:

It said: "Your Account access has been fully restored":

I did`nt know it was "Un-Restored"! Wonder if this had something to do with what you mention here?

But; No problems getting in or slow speed or anything like that:

Regards, Russ
