Payen head gasket...mislabeled?

Hi folks..
Was checking to see if I had all the required bits for installing the cyl head tonight, and when I test fit the Payen head gasket, the labeling did not seem 'right' or at least, this is not how I would label it..

I just wanted to make double-sure before I start assembly..

Thanks all,
Devin
Oops..caption didn't come through. Note where the "front" stamp is relative to the flywheel. Only way it fits with "front" stamping at the front of the engine is copper side down, and I'm pretty sure that is not right.

So this is with the "top" actually up..

Looks 'funny' to me: Isn't there a stud hole at the rear of the block? The gasket there has the hole, but it seems to be in the wrong spot.

I have no good reference to hand so that's just a WAG. Hap will know as soon as he looks at it.

Looks to me like the front was marked on wrong side, as it is facing the back of the block, I think you're fine. As for the extra stud hole in the gasket to the ones located at the middle front and back of the gasket, this was for the Copper heads which has 11 studs instead of 9, all 1275 gaskets are made with the extra two stud holes. Before anyone ask, I'll elbaorate on the 11 stud set up, yes you can convert a 9 stud block and head to accomondate 11 studs, but don't bother it's a waste of time, if we can keep head gakset in tack with 15. to 1 compression on SCCA race engines with nine studs, why would youy ever want to go to the trouble of using the 11 stud set up, total waste of time in my book.

In the future when buying head gaskets, just go for the Payen standard black composite head gaket, it's cheaper than the copper gasket and better sealing, copper head gaskets are yesterdays's news, we have better materials now to make head gaskets out of.

Thanks Doc and Hap.
Dunno..maybe it was built on a Friday and the Belgians were ready to go drink Belgian beer!

Hap- appreciate the info on the composites. That will save a few bucks in the future!

Off to assemble!
