Paybacks from Wives?

My wife is just as into cars as I am....so any car purchases or car parts(especially when they're for her car) are fine with her.

You guys are lucky-- My wife loves to ride along but can't understand the car thing, especially old/classic. She Happier riding in the Miata (No smoke in the wires, don't need to carry spares) : )

My purchases come from selling the previous car that was fixed plus extra work I do besides my regular faculty stuff.

We have a joint account.
I've been able to support my car habit-
-we're down to 9 cars now (We had 13 around
here at one time).
At least I know that she has a sense of humor!

Oh, my... don't tell MY wife about that idea....

She doesn't like having even the two we've got, and trading the non-LBC estate car for a nice classic, saloon car isn't on, either. Its my hobby and she has a distinct antipathy towards it and everything I do with it.

But it gets me out of the house, and I know she isn't going to come bother me....

Wife and I have only ever had joint accounts for everything. I cannot imagine the hassle of managing separate accounts for expenses/investments/whatever, especially with a house full of kids. Might as well be divorced. We have a simple rule, under $1000 requires no discussion, just do it. Over that we usually talk it over, just so the other one knows it is coming. Five figure purchases require discussion and joint agreement as there is usually some form of contract involved.

In 13 years of marriage we have never once fought about $.

Maybe thats why...I don't carry spares/tool in the LBC's....but I do in the modern cars, guess I just trust the LBC's more.

When I married my expenses doubled and she lost her income after I dragged her 2K miles across country (ah the glamourous life of a military spouse). She took over the fincaces, all of my bills got paid ahead of time and I had more money in my pocket then before she was around. She handles all the money. I get routine status briefings and I handle the long term investing. So when I want or need something I can't pay for out of my allowance and/or sale of parts from the previous mistake, I just ask. She rarely says no, usually it's "Can it wait until..."

So I don't have any payback issues. The only thing that gets me in trouble is dragging grease in the house for dinner when I have been out in the garage.
