Love those old pics. I've got one of my 72 Midget way back when although way back when for me is 1983! :smile:

Put half a million miles on it, PA road salt finally took it from me... oh, wait! I lie: First Wife actually got it, and SHE had to sell it for parts 'cause the rust mites finally got ahead of the maintenance. That's the car wot first wore the hard top and steering wheel THIS MGB is sportin' now, too. Wish I'd pulled the header and a few other goodies off'n it... :madder:

Ron - I am sorry to hear of your adventures on the club run but glad you are ok! I will be interested to read your plans on upgrading the brakes. My A is still in pieces but will have a MGB engine so I am certainly interested in the stop part of Doc's equation.

About the brakes, I have not yet decided to proceed with the conversion. I have read several articles about it with several recommending that the conversion is not worth the $$$.

I will be fixing the brake problems this weekend and, in the next couple of weeks, taking the car to a body shop that several of the club members have recommended...

I am already a member and have been for a couple of years. I just dont go to the meetings. Trying to do more runs though. We made it to the last Ball Bearing Breaker Challenge and will be there for the Rolling British Car day.

I was recently elected to the Board as Vice Chairman... One of my goals is to get more people into the club and more of the members to participate in meetings and activities... Every time I see an MG on the road or in a driveway I either invite them to join the club or put my card on the windshield.

The runs and other activities tend to be the same 5-10 people every time; mostly MGTs a few Bs and one A (mine when it is running or not bent) and I would love to see a whole caravan of classic MGs driving around the countryside on a regular basis... Even if I have to watch them pass by as I wait for a tow truck... :wall:
 
Found ONE photo (circa 1968) that my Mother had kept all these years of my girl, me, and my MG...a '65 Midget. If you look closely you'll see a little paint missing on the rear fender just to the front of the bumper; that helps me date the picture pretty precisely. I drove the Midget to the races at Sebring (40 miles away) about a week before this photo was taken and a guy tapped my rear bumper...not bad, just enough to skin up the paint.

I would highly recommend the disc brake swap. I finished mine last fall from a mga mk2 along with a front end rebuild and it made a world of difference. The bottom line is now I can stop. The difference between discs and drums is like night and day. Even I was surprised.
I will try to post some photos.

STATUS....

I put the A on stands this weekend and removed wheels and hubs..

I did not find any leaking at the wheel cylinders. They are all dry as a bone.. Although the left rear has some fluid that appears to be a bad axle seal that I need to replace. The slave cylinder on that wheel is dry and does not appear to be leaking. This is as close to a leak that I could find.

I crawled under the car to check for leaks at the clutch slave and found no ballooning nor fuid...

I checked the master and there is no ballooning at the rubber seals and no leaking from the master.

Even though I have not yet bled the brakes, the peddles are now solid and the brakes and clutch work (just from sitting there after filling the master???)

But, there is a leak somewhere... I can not explain where the brake fluid is going, albeit slowly.. :wall:

If you have a suggestion, I am all ears... :rolleyes:
 
That's as strange one. Is there any place for it to drip on from the MC? Like it does on your feet in a B?

The master on the A is easily visible on the plunger side. VIvibility to the pipe connections are in the back and not visible without a mirror and light. If there is a leak it will generally pool under and behind the master...

You have offered a suggestion that might be a causal factor. I have not noted leaks from the back but I may be well served if I remove the master and check the back (firewall side) of the master for any leaks. That is the only area that I have not thoroughly examined.

I'll let you know what I find.

Unlike the fuel overflow :rolleyes:, the brake lines are on the other side of the chassis and are routed ahead of the engine on the front cross-member and away from the exhaust...

good question....
