Parts Supplier ???

I about to order a few parts for my restoration project, Sprite MK2. Everyone I know (locally) recommended Moss. Had difficulty in working with them and tracking accurate parts in catalog vs. Vic British. Also thought they were $$ than Vic British.

Figured most of you have gone down this road and this is my first time, so it wouldn't hurt to ask. Any recommendations ? (Mostly Carb parts to rebuild, fuel tank & hoses / belts). Thanks for the advice.

I have bought many times from moss and victoria british.I also feel that moss is a little higher. Both give good service and quick.Moss does have tech support but don't hold your breath waiting for Bill to return your call. The parts are probably the same.Good luck.Ben

Good luck with your refurbishing. You might consider joining your local Austin Healey club for spare parts, free advice, even free help if needed. Many of us started out with Sprites and may have parts left over. I've dealt with Moss many times on my restoration and have found them to be quite helpful.

Hello George:
I would suggest that you check out Healey Surgeons. I believe that they have a web site. I've bought parts from them and have been very satisfied. The local expert Healey mechanic deals with them exclusively. I have a 100-4, so I have no experience with Sprite parts, but they may be able to help you.

I buy my Moss and Vic Brit from a discount supplier. You use the catalogs and give them the part number and page and you save 10 to 20 percent. Same shipping. Same garrentees. About two extra days shipping. I'd rather not publish the nameof the one I use (there are several, I just like this guy) but you can E mail me to get it if that is okay with Basil. I'm not sure of the policy of the forum.

For mechanicals try Mini Mania. They now have an entire Sprite department and sell a lot more than engine parts. If I know what you are looking for in particular, I can almost always recommend a higher quality alternative to Moss and BV, but the cost will usually (but not always) be more.

For LBC parts, look for the small local guy. He cares! Just Brits near Chicago, World Wide Auto in Madison WI, Mini Mania, there are several. All these guys KNOW your car. Mo$$ and Vic Brit don't care.
And most of their stuff comes from china or tiawan.

All the parts that fell off my car were the finest moss could supply.

moss free since 1989!

I like using the small guy too (even if they aren't local) because they are not tied into just one vendor and can pick from the best suppliers. Just to be clear though, most of the parts are from Moss (with the stickers on the parts to prove it). Not that it bothers me because most of the parts from Moss are good. I do think Moss cares, it's in their best interest to keep customers happy. Returns and disatisfied customers are the last thing they want. At least they have a generous return policy (unlike some parts vendors that charge high restocking fees) and listen when something isn't right. I haven't had very good luck with Victoria British on the few times I've tried to order. The parts people were not able to answer my questions and the shipping charges seemed to be high.
British Car Specialists has lots of 'harder to find'items besides the Moss stuff but have a restocking fee.

Cheers,
John
