Parts ordering help

Friends, I'm trying to figure out a large order from the VB sale catalogue and over the next week or so I'll need your help sorting out what to buy. It's a 76 that is a budget restoration but I don't want to be cheap either. TIA for your help.

Question # 1

which top?

https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MG-MIDGET...1QQcmdZViewItem

on ebay or

https://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MGB-also-...1QQcmdZViewItem

on ebay

or part 9-5327-BB on back cover of VB sale catalogue
or ? what am I missing? I presume new is best for this.

Question #2 Carpet

9-9527-BL (p 27 VB sale) (p 67 regular catalogue) $189.99

or

16-405-BL (p 27 sale) (p 67 regular) $ 149.99

again, am I missing anything better?

How do I know if they have snaps or not? to hold them in place?

while I'm on the subject of carpet, In my Original Sprite and Midget book, on page 73 (top) and page 54 (bottom) they show a flecked white/black carpet, is this available?

#3 Timing Chain. I have no reason to think I need one but figure I should change it while the engine is out. Is this right? Do I need to replace the sprockets too (I haven't checked them visually)

#4 Has anyone ordered the rear valance panel 9-9881 on page 38 of the regular VB catalogue? It is #35 on the diagram on page 39. If so, does it come predrilled? I want to convert mine back to chrome bumper and so I need a pre 75 valance but I want to put a pre 1969 license plate light on it (8-768 pg. 86 in the sale catalogue) will this work?

#5 Finally. also in sale catalogue, I want to use part # 8-051 (also page 86 in sale catalogue) for my front turn signals. since the big hole in the front fenders has to be welded shut anyway, I think the circular signals will look cool, but, were spridgets ever 6 volts? Polarity shouldn't matter right?

I hope this all makes sense
thanks again

Guess I have dumb question. Can Tony meet or beat these prices?

I know he beats the regular prices always.

I'd love to know too. Let me add that I'm basically going to be ordering everything rubber - hoses, rebuild kits, etc, brakes, radiator and cables. (for a start)

First, I no longer use VB - I was a dealer for years but dropped them...now I only use Moss

Moss top sale is over & when it was going on, I could beat that price...not now - about $225 is lowest I could go on Midget top & that top has all snaps, etc so all you have to do is fit to header rail..I also only use Robbins tops - to me a top is not a place to go cheap...it spends most of its time folded down & that's actually bad on the plastic; however, I've had Robbins tops last 10 years!

Carpet kit, about $220 - again, Moss sale is over

On regular items for car, at regular catalog prices, I am usually somewhere around 20% under

Just my 2 cents, but I used Little British Car Co. https://www.lbcarco.com . Their prices are at least 10% less than moss and you can order using the moss part numbers. I was really pleased with the speed and service.

As for the timing chain, personally I'd change it as long as the engine is out. And, if you change the timing change, you should replace the cam and crank gears. I went with a double row gear that I purchased from British Parts Northwest https://www.bpnorthwest.com/ . Again, I was really impressed with the knowledge and service from this company.

As for carpeting, I found a company out of Ohio that makes the carpets. https://britpartslocator.com/html/carpets.html

They sell a lot on E-Bay, but bidding on e-bay, people run the price up usually 50.00 more than what you'd pay directly. Their carpet set is 130.00. I bought one and am very happy with the quality.

FWIW You can carpet a Midget for about $50
$40 worth of quality carpet from any auto or boat upholstry shop and a can of 3M spray glue. Yes it is removable, and the only tough piece is the center shifter piece. Again a simple double cut under the radio console or have it semn at a shop.
A set of Midget mats for your feet and a perfect fitting (no edges showing) carpet job looks great. Not original but have you ever seen edged carpets in any modern car?
