Ever wonder how they did that special effect in the movie, The Ten Commandments? Well, my wife's old uncle Vince Bruno (long deceased) was a special effects man for the movie studios for many, many years...way before computers or computer graphics. Vince did the parting of the Red Sea with...Green Jello. Pretty cool.

We just last week celebrated his widow's (my wife's aunt) 100th birthday in New Mexico. Thank goodness for the Screen Actors Guild and affiliated unions.

Wow! Heard about those Jello parties out there, but never dreamed some were biblical!

Bill, congratulations to your Aunt for a long life, well-lived.

The SAG's a great and storied union that serves its members well. Their most famous leader, former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, was elected SAG Board President twice back in the forties.

It's a huge organization with more than 180,000 members, and not all are rich movie stars.

Perhaps the SAG Presidency is where Mr. Reagan honed his leadership skills for future greatness.

Interesting. :yesnod:

Funny, Bill Cosby never mentioned that... :confuse:

Happens to me all the time.

My father who was born in 1907 was an extra in the 1923 silent version that was filmed in the dunes west of Guadalupe/Nipomo Cal. I believe he was paid $3.50 a week and his horse $7. It irked him that his horse earned more than he did. Probably put a sly smile on the horse though.

Man, that's a lot of Jello!

Nah, those are really small people.

Uncle Vince also helped build the mock-up of Atlanta that they burned down in Gone With The Wind.

Uncle Vince was a true miser. He wrote down every time he spent any money in a little book. Ten cents for a cup of coffee, etc.

He loved to pan for gold in the mountain streams. Free Money!
I saw in his workshop before he passed away 4 quart-sized Ball Mason jars, filled with gold flakes! About 20 pounds of gold. I wonder what ever happened to that.

Neighbors or relatives...
