Paris Dispatches

Well folks, another great day. Got up, had a great breakfast, walked to the Musee D'Orsey. This is an impressionist museum and to my tastes topped the Louvre. It is in an old train station and has more art that I recognized than I have ever seen in one place - Monet, Van Gogh, Manet, Degas etc. It was gorgeous. (I don't know art but I know what I like) Then had a lovely supper at the museum, part of it used to be the railway hotel and we ate in a ballroom. We then finished the museum and walked toward the Eiffel Tower. Along the way we came across an open air market that was magical. It was dusk, the lights had just come on and included christmas lights. This was a real market fruit, cheese, meat etc (as opposed to junk) and it was filled with families buying supper. After wandering there, we made our way to the tower which was covered in fog up top so, because of that and the crowds, we decided to go up another day. Kept on walking (man are there ever a lot of hawkers at the tower) along the river and ended up back on the champs d'elysee. One of the things my beloved is interested in is fashion and quite by accident we ended up walking up the street with Chanel, Gucci, Dior and all the other major designers. These are stores that we wouldn't even be able to enter much less buy anything at but they were sure impressive. Had some supper, checked out the Citroen Showroom and Maserati and headed home on the Metro for tea. Again, feet are sore but what a great city.

Thanks to Basil, here are some pics of what we really like to see (no not French women, though.....)

These Landy tow trucks are everywhere and seem to be city owned as they are mostly towing illegal parking.

Oh my! Voulez vous garage avec moi ce soir?! :driving:

We got to witness an interesting scene in the Peugeot showroom. There are staff EVERYWHERE to make sure you don't touch anything. Well, a very pretty girl comes in and the staff watch quietly as she proceeds to climb in every car and have her boyfriend take her picture. She leaves, 60 year old man opens door to climb in and staff jump on him for touching car. He jumps on staff for saying nothing while girl did same and staff are suddenly very quiet.

Also, did have someone try to scam us today (and the same scam twice in three days.) Here's what happens, an attractive young woman "finds" a "gold" wedding ring on the ground behind you, stops you and asks if it is yours. You answer "no." She then gives it to you, congratulates you on your good fortune and walks away. You start away when suddenly she turns and asks for money for food. Turns out that if you don't give her money, she takes the ring and walks away. who knew?

That's the French version of the "WE BUY GOLD" thing.

Does that mean that they are towing some legally parked cars as well?
