Panel switch positions

Well, it seems my BJ8 panel switches, o/d, wiper, panel lights and lights, were quite an assortment. As I try to salvage the good ones and replace the broken or incorrect ones, a couple of questions arise:

1. Does the wiper switch really need to be a three position switch, with eight lugs? Seems to me by the wiring diagram that this is only an on/off switch. It would make sense if the wipers were two speed, but that doesn't seem to be the case, with only a ground and hot wire coming into the switch.

2. This is pretty basic, but is the off position for the panel lights, wiper and headlight/running light switch up or straight out? The light switch seems to want to be up in the off position, middle position is parking and panel lights, with the lower position being all lights.

Thanks for the help.

My wiper switch has two positions, up for off. BTW, both wires going to that switch are ground. Black, black/green.

All of the panel switches are tilted up when off.
They are all lined up the same way when off.
The chrome dash panel where the switches are mounted, had
" D " shaped holes. The switches have a corresponding " D " shape shoulder and should only fit in the dash panel in one direction. Take a look.

Thanks Ed and Greg. I was aware of the shoulders, just wanted to make sure that the light switch was wired correctly. For that, it is necessary to know where "off" is. I took the car apart five years ago, and failed to note the positions.

Thanks so much, Greg. What's puzzling to me is why they used such a robust switch for the wiper. I think that the only switch that really needs complexity is the light switch, which, if you don't mind having all your lights either on or off, wouldn't need complexity either.

Greg to the rescue....again. How do you get to, shoot those great photos. Wow.
One photo; shows exactly what/which wire attaches to where on each switch. Right on! (pisst, hey Greg, I noticed a little dust up there, whatsupwiththat)....(Oh and that double black wire that doesn't play well with others, the one that just seems to be traveling alone from the right top to the left bottom of the photo...Yeah, it's just there so we'll ask, and what about that wire?) That's the secret wire

The double black wires are not both black. They are the ground wires that complete the heater fan circuit when you turn on the heater. I think.

Just having fun with Sir Greg. You can always count on him.
From the photo, one solid black, one black with white stripe.
Cheers, Roger

If you remember my in-dash espresso machine Roger, those black wires are the power for that.

Actually Cutlass has it right, they are the heater switch wires. But they aren't ground wires. They splice into the harness to a green wire and a green/yellow wire.
