Painting the bumpers on a rubber bumper car

Well, since ive lost my login name numerous times, and couldnt get them back, im gclinemgb. Well, work has started on my MGB, and im planning to paint the engine tomorrow. As for the color of the car, I have chosen black tulip. Im also going to have a "special tuner" valance on it. Im planning to paint it with an arcrylic enamel (i know some might disagree about this, but someone told me if its good enough for me, and it makes me happy, thats all that counts) But i was thinking of painting the bumpers too, the color of black tulip. Now, would this look right and look ok? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

It's up to you. My bumpers (I don't have the valance) are painted and they look great - and I get a lot of comments on them. Occasionally a self-proclaimed expert will lecture me about how it isn't original, but who cares.

Hey, BlackTulip -

Since you've chosen a color that wasn't available that year, seems like you're already a target for snipers!

BTW, great choice. That's the color we're doing ours - a '73, which was the year it was offered, though this one was Mallard Green, and the body is actually from a '72. so, I guess we're not original, either, are we?

Like Aerog says, go for it!

Black Tulip,

Do what you want, the crime was committed years ago when BL was forced into designing those bumpers.

BT,

Go for it!!! It is only paint. If YOU do not like it, you can change it. I like both chrome and rubber bumper MGBs. Being able to paint the bumpers the same color as the car,if you so desire, is one advantage of the RB's . I also like the front profile better than the stubby chrome bumper profile. But, that is just MY take on it. Does not mean I like RB's better, just appreciate the differences.

If I had found a 1972 chrome bumper before I found my 78, I would be 72MGB. (that is if it has not been taken)

Keep us posted and if you can, post some pix when you get it done.

I love Black Tulip, what a great color. As far as painting rubber bumpers go, I would say with a dark color car, I would leave them black. I think they look better body color on lighter colored cars like Scott's.

That's funny...my opinion is just the opposite! I prefer black bumpers for light colored cars. I guess that's why they make lots of different colors of paint!!

I agree with Black Tulip! I want to paint the bumpers of my dads MG but both him and my brother don't want! Ah well, i guess i'll have to wait until i get my drivers license and enough money to buy one off ebay! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

Hey Black Tulip -
I'm considering painting my bumpers too (76 B). I went back and forth about it - the whole "what would the purists think?" thread. Then it occured to me that a purist won't be driving the car, I will. I think 98% of us drive our LBCs for our own enjoyment, and if painting the bumpers to match the car brings you enjoyment, then head down, go for it, and no regrets!
