Hello to all!
I have a complete round of 60 spoked for my spitfire. I have had them bead blasted and check for cracks. Now I am ready to prime and paint. Looking for recommendations and proper color.
This is for a daily driver so I'm looking for a durable finish. Any and all suggestions welcomed!
 
Powder coating is very durable and if your rims are trued you can coat it without taking the spokes out, I powdercoated this one in Argent Silver and a clear coat.

Look great and I would love to do that. I hate to say it but I'm looking at ways to cut corners untill I can do a full resto.
Argent was the magic color I was looking for. Would this be the closet to stock in color. I think I used the same color on the centers of a 65 Mustang I restored so I know the Duplicorolor equal.

If you're doing this on a budget and don't want to powder paint, Eastwood sells a very nice argent paint in a rattle can. I've used it on our GT6 wheels and I was pleased with the results. $12/can. Visit Eastwood and use their search function with keywords "wheel paint".
 
I don't know anything about powder coating, probably should look into it eventually.

However, what you want from Eastwood is their Detail Silver in a can. Part #1285Z. $11 per can. I used it 10 years ago and held up brilliantly. Only this past year did I consider it may be worth redoing (since I plan on replacing tires anyway).

I also recently saw references to clear coating for added protection and durability. Eastwood offers something called Diamond Clear in both a gloss and semi-gloss finish. Not sure which finish would look more appropriate though.

I would not powdercoat. I know someone that did and it ruined 4 good rims. 300 degrees and you can get warped rims.
 
I have had 5 wire wheels powder coated by 2 different companies. The first company did one NOS wire wheel. I had a tire store mount a tire and when they started to balence it, it was would wobble on the balencer. They said that it was the powder coating. It was hard to beleive. The second set was a set of bare (no tires) TR-6 wire wheels that I checked before I sent them to the powder coaters and they ran true. The second powder coater assured me that 500 degrees for 30 minutes would not damage the wheels. I took my freshly done wheels down to the tire store and bought new tires. I have wobbly wire wheels that have about 1/4 inch of side run out on each wheel, and now can not be tuned or adjusted because of the powder coating. Another member of our Forum had a set of steel TR-3 wheels powder coated in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and they also were warped by the heat at the powder coaters.
I have had many other parts done with great suscess but can not recommend doing wheels. Good Luck, Bill C. Mesa, Az.
 
I also used Eastwoods detail silver, recomended by Hendrix Wire Wheel by the way. Got to be careful with it cause it will run in a heartbeat. I did not clear coat, probably should have, maybe later.
I also had a number of folks highly reccomend against powder coating wires.

I would paint them myself with dupont imron paint. very, very tough paint. Paint is repairable, which i like.
