Painting over POR15

Found a couple of seat rails in the junkyard that are better than mine. Thinking about hitting them with POR15. How well does paint from a rattle can stick to POR?

Why wouldn't it? POR15 is made to be top coated as it does not have much for UV resistance.
 
yes but I think you must paint the top coat within a specified time or use their tie coat or use their new special top coat (if beyond the time frame). Best to check the Por-15 site for more info and/or ask some questions at their forum so someone at the company can steer you straight.

Then again, I don't like the hassle of Por-15 .. I prefer to sandblast, wirebrush as much of the rust as possible, use Zero rust as a primer and a good industrial coating for the topcoat. Rattle can works o.k. for some parts but if it's in an area that gets abuse it won't last long. Anyway, just my opinion /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Seat rails could be left in primer- the POR15 is pretty shiny just as it is and if these aren't in sunlight UV discoloration shouldn't be an issue.

Read the instructions. As I recall I believe that a top coat applied while the POR15 hasn't fully dried should stick well. Try a test piece and see.

Once the POR15 is fully dried and cured I do not think you'd have a chance of the paint sticking well without their tie-coat primer.
