Need some help choosing a paint color for my car. Looking at paint chips is rediculous. I would love to see examples of your cars here at bcf. I'm leaning toward maroon, don't like signal red. Any pictures would be appreciated...

Here my TR6 in a "maroon" the actual name of the color is Damson Plum...

google "Triumph TR3 photos". I've been mauling over the color choice for my TR3 and found so many good ideas in the photos that now I'm even more confused. Mine was originally powder blue w/blue interior. My car is not going to be a concourse car so I'm not really concerned with going original or even Triumph colors, just want something tasteful that keeps the classic look. Saw a metallic silver blue with blue interior that is really striking. I guess the judges will deduct a point for metallic paint. Who died and made them judge anyway?

That is a beautiful TR6, Elliot. Thanks for the link, Tom. I have 2 TRs, a 62 TR3B and a 59 TR3A. I feel compelled to restore the B to original, the A to my preference, as it will be a driver.

I'm not keen on red much either, but it's the colour mine was new, so I had it done red and I think it suits it.

I like my red one but in my case, too, it is only that colour because the factory chose it. If I was changing color I would stay with one of the original colours but perhaps stretch a point and use a colour from another year.

When I bought my TR3A brand new in 1958, I ordered it in British Racing Green with red interior and an overdrive. The S-T dealer said it would have to be a special order for that paint combination and delivery might be 2 months. A week later he called that he had found a BRG TR3A with tan interior - but no O/D. I told him I didn't want it. He said he'd keep looking at the delivery system to see if he could find what I wanted. He also added that he could get a Black TR3A with Red interior and O/D and he'd be willing to have it re-sprayed BRG. But that would take two weeks. I later assumed that the engine bay would be left in the original factory colour, so I told him I'd take it in black.

When I was 20, and we're speaking the month of May (springtime) and all these French Canadian girls out in their spring dresses, I decided not to wait two weeks or two months. I'm glad of that decision.

Yes, my wife is French Canadian. That was another good decision. The third great decision I made was to keep my TR3A for the last 54 years. Here we are in 2009.

wow, Don, I can't believe looking at the two of you, that you could possibly be old enough to have purchased the car new. Thanks for the replies. geo and ash - is that signal red? I like a medium blue, red, maroon...argh! I must make up my mind by tomorrow. It's the only thing holding up the job.

Hi There Don,

Wow! I have to beleive that your TR is what kept You & Your Wife looking really "Young"!

Your TR & both caretakers look great!!

Regards, Russ

Picking a color is so personal and very difficult from a small sample. I have 3 TR-3 (all now red). I wanted a little less orange than Signal red so I went with Rosso Corsa. I suggest you go to a few shows and find a color on a car you like. Then look at it on different days in different light conditions.

Yers, though it is hard to tell from a photo... it seems to be a different shade of red in every pic I take.

Yest it definitely is and I took photos on bright sunlight and the shade to show the contrast.

For TR3s I think that my favorite color combo is Black with a red interior, just like Mr Elliott's. Second to that would be the dark BRG with tan interior. It seems that almost every TR3 around my area is red, i'm tired of red personally =D

My dad had a black mga with red interior, i think is was a 58. I was about 4 yrs old and remember riding with the top down from Louisville, Ky to Harrisburg, Pa. Dad drove thru the night while i slept, peeking out from under the tonneau every few hrs. That's the reason I'm so hooked on these cars. It gets in your blood.
