I'm having a valve job done and the head is being cleaned. I will need to paint the head and the exhaust manifold ( I guess) when they get back.
any suggestions on painting the engine in the car as the PO has it in Chevy red/orange or just orange. The body and engine compartment are a Signal Red. I was thinking of painting the block in black. Should it be a gloss or flat black?

Any help and advice appreciated!!!!

The engines were originally painted black. I used paint that was more glossy then flat, probably Rust-O-Leum. Try and degrease as much as possible and just be careful of overspray and mask off where you thing you need to and it should turn out good.

But yeah, get rid of the Chevy orange.

Amen to the Chevy Orange. Glossy black is good. Don't paint the engine bay black either, I've seen many cars where the owner painted the engine bay black, I'd rather see a dirty body color than the inner fenders painted black.

I agree with Marv...

If you're just painting the engine block(I concur with the no go on the body) you may think of using an
artist's brush with the long handle. It would take less time than masking off parts not to be painted.
Did this once and worked well for me

Part of why I got started cleaning the block. I didn't realize that my TR4 came with the self changing oil function
